Star Wars: Battlefront Might Sell 9-10 Million In First Year

Oh, it's almost guaranteed to be uber-popular.

During yesterday's earnings call, publisher Electronic Arts said they expect the highly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront to sell 9-10 million copies.

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed the number and honestly, nobody is surprised. I'll actually be surprised if it doesn't sell more than that. Of course, the internal estimates only include sales during the first fiscal year; the game could go on to sell many more copies after that period is over. However, EA did add that because "Star Wars" is a Disney property, they'll have to pay out royalties.

Yesterday, we wondered if Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops III should be intimidated by EA's Battlefront. While it's almost certain that BLoPSIII will outsell the new Star Wars game, there's no way to predict review scores, and no way of knowing if EA will steal away a bit more FPS market share...

Star Wars: Battlefront launches on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

seeing that Destiny sold by the millions despite the amount of mixed reviews I feel like this is another game that wont need a whole lot of critical approval to be successful.

I think the biggest obstacle for this game is the launch stability.
I'm excited for this, sure, but I can't help but think this is under EA's helm. EA. The guys who totally botched the online Sim City launch a few years back. The guys who couldn't get Battlefield 4's online play stable for.... like ever.
I suppose it's not just EA but Sony too. Look at Drive Club.

It just seems to me this could be a huge disaster when it's so contingent on network viability.
I suppose Activision would do better with it. They've managed to launch both Destiny and keep CoD well respected for so long. I'd feel more comfortable if I knew it was under their umbrella.

EDIT: but but Titanfall temjin, that was a successful launch. Yea, it was hosted by Microsoft's special Azure servers. It was part of the exclusivity deal. I doubt that's on the table this time.
