Sony Exec Hints At Unannounced PS4 Holiday Exclusives

After Uncharted 4: A Thief's End got delayed to 2016, people began to worry about Sony's holiday lineup for PlayStation 4.

It doesn't help that the delays continue to mount; we just learned yesterday that the PS4 re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank won't make it this year, either.

But Sony isn't concerned at all. As UK Managing Director Fergal Gara told MCV in a recent interview:

"I won't go into any detail now. There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway for PS4 and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what is on the table right now. So I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."

Obviously, this implies that we don't know everything that's coming this holiday season, and we should probably anticipate some new announcements at E3 in June. As for why there's a big gap between major exclusives on the new platform, Gara said it's just a matter of developers getting used to new hardware:

"My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve. What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That's perhaps driven some conservatism to not overly force this and make sure we get it right--there's been an adjustment of pace."

Gara added that developers will be able to better stick to timelines as the generation progresses. "I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape," he said.

Well, that's nice and all but I hope Sony really does have a few tricks up its sleeve for E3. Right now, Microsoft has Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider on tap for Xbox One at the end of the year. That's nothing to sneeze at.

I don't have time to play games like in the ps2 days :(
Think it is actually a good thing that they are taking more time to actually get games finished properly. If I have to wait a few more months for a game that will be a better experience I'd rather do that.

yeah brody I'm actually enjoying myself playing games that I missed, which is a nice change of pace from being obsessed with the newest thing.

Of course, here comes the Witcher, but it has been fun.

Yep, Witcher 3 is pretty much going to take over life for a few months!

Pretty sure all we got was "late 2015" and haven't heard anything else since then. Least with the way the game works once they get everything stable should seemingly be just push a button and go with it all being procedurally generated.
Once they get the system working good enough it seems like it would be good to go?
It's likely just getting all the kinks and bugs out that would be the biggest issue with this type of game.

Not a game designer though so NO idea but just seems to me like the procedural generation should help some what and must have been how they were able to stick with such a small Dev team for so long.

And isn't Uncharted 4 delayed into next year now?

We aren't going to look good for the end of the year, those little indie titles won't do it.

What will do it for ME is PERSONA 5 ya'll! I know it has sorta been announced but a date and some real look at it would be epic. It's way overdue on a console so easy to program for.

I agree that devs are still working things out since the first generation of games are either stripped down (inFamous) or buggy (AsCreed, Dragon Age).

Sounds more like marketing BS than any actual info on an upcoming exclusive this year which sounds pretty unlikely when we still haven't heard anything this far into the year...

And how is a port & a crappy indie-title somehow proof that they are set for the holidays, that alone should tell you something...

Hopefully it's God of War 4.

I will keep my expectations by the door though as it will probably just be some Indie garbage about a boy with a paintbrush who paints his own scenery in order to progress through the next phase of his imagination.
