Sony Exec Hints At Unannounced PS4 Holiday Exclusives
After Uncharted 4: A Thief's End got delayed to 2016, people began to worry about Sony's holiday lineup for PlayStation 4.
It doesn't help that the delays continue to mount; we just learned yesterday that the PS4 re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank won't make it this year, either.
But Sony isn't concerned at all. As UK Managing Director Fergal Gara told MCV in a recent interview:
"I won't go into any detail now. There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway for PS4 and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what is on the table right now. So I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."
Obviously, this implies that we don't know everything that's coming this holiday season, and we should probably anticipate some new announcements at E3 in June. As for why there's a big gap between major exclusives on the new platform, Gara said it's just a matter of developers getting used to new hardware:
"My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve. What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That's perhaps driven some conservatism to not overly force this and make sure we get it right--there's been an adjustment of pace."
Gara added that developers will be able to better stick to timelines as the generation progresses. "I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape," he said.
Well, that's nice and all but I hope Sony really does have a few tricks up its sleeve for E3. Right now, Microsoft has Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider on tap for Xbox One at the end of the year. That's nothing to sneeze at.
