Watch Dogs Multiplayer, Single-Player Overlap "Seamlessly"
The first time I saw an example of a single-player/multiplayer blending, I think it was Demon's Souls. It was...different.
When I saw it, I wondered if that really was the future of video games, even though it didn't get nearly enough attention at the time. Now, it seems that could be the case, as we're hearing about new titles that will indeed blend the single-player and multiplayer aspects of a game. For some projects, the developers aren't creating two distinctly separate modes; they're mixing them.
For example, take Ubisoft's highly anticipated Watch Dogs. There's a new "7 Things You Need To Know" feature over at the PlayStation Blog, and one of the highlights is that the single-player and multiplayer components will "seamlessly" overlap. It seems the developer has been looking to "demolish the wall that has divided single-player gaming and multiplayer for decades." Sounds cool...so long as we don't have to be connected to play.
Other points include the fact that we'll be able to "hack anything," and the encouraging information that the side-quests will be "novel and varied." Watch Dogs is slated to launch on November 19 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. The PS4 version will evidently be available at the system's launch. It should be out for the new Xbox, too.
