If The New Xbox Was Cheaper Than PS4, Would You Consider It?
At this point, everyone seems to love the PlayStation 4. But there are two things to consider:
Firstly, the new Xbox hasn't even been unveiled yet. After Microsoft officially announces their new system next week, you might start seeing a lot of very positive headlines, and that will result in some tough decisions for gamers come fall. Secondly, as always, price is an issue.
Sony has made it clear that they don't want to be exclusionary this time around. They wanted to give developers an accessible yet powerful console, they opted for affordable PC components, and they've said the price of the PS4 will be quite reasonable. Perhaps there will be two models, one priced at $400 and the other priced at $500. That's just a guess but it seems perfectly plausible, and it's also quite plausible that the new Xbox will have an identical price tag.
But what if it doesn't? What if Microsoft goes even further? What if they produce at least one version of their new system that comes in well below the PS4? Would that entice you to pick up the Xbox 720? Thing is, money is tight for many, and not everyone can afford to buy a next-gen system this year. They definitely can't afford to purchase both. And if it comes down to price, if a gamer says, "Okay, I can only afford one, and it has to be the cheapest one available," does that not give Microsoft the edge...?
