Analysts: New PlayStation, Xbox Likely To Launch In 2013

Neither Sony or Microsoft unveiled their next-gen machines at E3 this year, but disappointed gamers may not have to wait too long...

A couple analysts have predicted that either of the two game companies will release their new consoles before 2013 is over. In fact, maybe both will arrive.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia said in a note to investors that it's "more than likely" new consoles will be on store shelves by the end of next year. To echo those thoughts, Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said he expects both new machines to hit later next year, and both should "boast improvements to processing power, speed, and graphics." ...not like we'd be shocked by that. It's kinda accepted that any new hardware will trump that of the existing hardware, yes?

As for what to expect, Sebastian believes the "most significant innovations" in the next generation will focus on the integration of fresh online features and "flexible revenue models," like the popular free-to-play setup and various digital microtransactions. Well, whatever we get, there's sure to be a ton of news and hype surrounding it.

The only way I could see this happening for Sony is if Microsoft forces their hand, there's just no point in a PS4 next year. There are so many big titles that are bound for current consoles the launch lineup for next gen consoles would be abysmal to non-existant.

I kind of wonder if Sony will bother continuing PS Home next time. Seems like a wash to me.

I agree with you on no PS4 in 2013. Especially after Sony came out and said they're about making the best console, not the cheapest or first released console but the BEST.

Another point is that, I doubt Sony have enough resources to release new PS4 games on PS3 also. Once PS4 releases, teams will continue to shift to the new console. The sooner PS4 releases, the sooner you have no PS3 games to play.

Even if they initially plan to release first, the time when MS releases their new console will be a factor. I just hope MS is willing to release it on 2014, at least. At this point, I really do believe Sony is playing the ready game. Whenever Xbox launches, they're gonna make sure they're ready to counter soon after. Otherwise, all this talk about learning Sony learning their lesson on being late, high price, will mean squat.

Enough with the Next-Gen Consoles!!! They will come out when they come out. And who cares if either xbox or PS comes out first or which will be better because, in my opinion, a TURE GAMER gets all consoles available, not just one.

I'm pretty sure a "true" gamer will get whatever consoles they prefer. I don't own a wii and I've never wanted one. I used to own a 360 and after it died I didn't feel the need to get one. I know plenty of your so called "true" gamers that own all the systems and not only suck at video games but mainly just sit in front of the TV brain dead playing COD.

So.sad, this has ruined my day or my day to come. I've always considered myself a True Gamer but because I do not want or need an Xbox I've learnt my life was a lie. What do I do now? What's the point of continuing to game if I'm not a True Gamer?

Well I have to disagree, I don't play shooters hardly ever, rarely play online, and am not huge on console social activities.

While the latest 360 is finally a worthwhile machine, wifi and more reliable, it still only has a handful of games that I have any interest in playing, some of which I can play on computer.

Nintendo has some great stuff that I understand people love, but most of their stuff just isn't suited to my taste either.

I consider myself a gamer, but this gen their are so many titles that I love and would love to play, I just don't have time for stuff that I find ok. It's just not financially worth it to me to spend hundreds on a console that wouldn't hold my interest.

no, a true gamer is a gamer who plays all kinds of genre games not just FPS games all day like most of the xbox fans that waste their money every year paying for online gaming.

A TRUE gamer is nothing more then someone who plays what they enjoy. It can be flash based Mahjong, tabletop games, PS(whatever), Xbox, Commodore, even Bingo. Anyone who tries to define a gamer as anything but a person who plays games and has fun is only hurting themselves.

Well, if we're going to go along the lines of a true gamer encompassing all gaming, then I'd want them to also be into chess, pen-and-paper RPGs, have a regularly-used copy of twister and play sport (also a game) on the weekend :).

But as long as people play what they like, is all good. I 'only' (I didn't consider it only for a second - I reckon I'm very fortunate to have 'em) a PS3, Vita, PC, PS2 and Gamecube (so I'm missing a good number of consoles), and I'm not buying any more as my 'to-play' list on PS3 is 20-odd titles long, and there's another 15 or so on PC, and about 5 on Vita. Sure, I'd love a 360 as well, and the handful of games on it I want to play (Gears, Halo and Fable, mainly) are quality, but until I've got through my current list, then it doesn't make any sense at all to get any other platforms.

He makes a good point, but I think it is unfair to say that because we all have our own tastes. In his defense, you guys say silly stuff like this sometimes when it comes to defining someone as a hardcore gamer or core gamer.

If analysts were right even half the time they would all be billionaires. Now I am not saying they are wrong and yet that is exactly what I am saying>_< They like many are just trying to make an educated guess, and yes one or more of them will eventually be right, but basically listening to them will get you nothing but a headache in the long run.

Analysts remind me of consultants which in my experience are just as bad at their jobs. They(consultants) came into one of the warehouses I worked in and because of numbers said that all our 1" slate should be up in the racks because the 3/4" slate sold more. Had we listened to them the injuries and money lost due to breakage would have cost us a bundle. Needless to say the warehouse manager told them to leave after just 2 days of looking threw the data and said we can manage, the president was livid with the W. manager until he showed him the direction they were trying to take us in, and then he thanked him for overstepping his duties.

I think analyst will just keep saying they are coming out next year until they do come out because the analyst don't know, but this way they'll eventually be right.

If any of the big three were releasing a new console in the next year, I highly doubt they would have kept it to themselves at E3 considering how hard a time they have keeping things secret up to E3.

seriously, how the hell do these people get paid to say something new, than record it and hit play for the next 6 months?
i swear to god the amount of times they repeat themselves is ridiculous!
next were going to have predictions of what colour the sky will be tomorrow!
my guess is purple.

I doubt we see the PS4 next year. I think it was just yesterday Jack Tretton was talking about how it's not about being out first. He said it's about having the best console. Further, he said something along the lines of Sony consoles always being more expensive. So it seems Sony isn't worried about being first but rather the quality of the console.

Now MS has no choice but to put out a new console. Yet they need concentrate on creating new IPs with the in-house devs they do have. It's crazy how many exclusives they lack..

There was an article on another gaming website where they supposedly had done an anonymous survey from a number of game developers, and according to that most of them are currently already working on next-gen games for both the next playstation and xbox, and said they won't release any new games for the current gen after 2013...

So assuming the entire survey is not a lie, and those anonymous devs were telling the truth (they wouldn't really have a reason to, would they?), both next-gen consoles should come out some time next year...

i dont know about everyone else here but im sick of the crying for new consoles... well xbox always needs a new console, but PS3 was built to A: Last, and B: built for the future. All the current games coming out on ps3 are still highest quality out there and beautifull

How many more head lines and articles are we going to read like this before the PS4/new xbox comes out?
The only thing that changes is the date and maybe the names of the people who come out with this rubbish,for the most part i think it's done just to get readers to what ever website,most of the time the informationn is wrong any ways.
Lets go for something new for a change and leave this sort of thing for when we KNOW when they are coming out,not guess work because thats all it is no matter how they dress it up.
