Ueda "Nervous" About The Last Guardian's Return At E3

Yes, The Last Guardian is real and it's launching in 2016 (we hope).

Of course, what was once exclusive to PlayStation 3 is now exclusive to PlayStation 4, and Sony needed to bring on another team to move things along. But after its triumphant return at E3 2015, the game is back in the limelight.

As you might expect, the long-awaited title's return went over exceedingly well with the joyous audience. But creative director Fumito Ueda was worried that he wouldn't get such a reaction. In fact, he thought some people might have forgotten the project entirely. As he told the PlayStation Blog:

"Yes, it's been a few years since our last announcement. From my point of view, it was very unpredictable how the audience would react. I wasn't sure if people would remember the title. Admittedly, I was a bit nervous."

Of course, after everyone started cheering like mad, Ueda's concerns vanished. "Afterwards, I was more relaxed and happy!" he said. As for why Guardian has taken this long, the developer cited the technical challenge of transitioning to PS4:

"If I had to call out one of them, it was more of a technical hurdle that we had to overcome. But eventually we have overcome it, and we have finally--proudly-- announced the game for PS4 during the E3 press conference."

The game's core components haven't changed, by the way. The content and storyline have remained the same, said Ueda, but the jump to PS4 allowed the team to "push the envelope on the technology side." It does look pretty incredible. And anyone who says it looks exactly the same as the original PS3 reveal needs to schedule an eye exam. Rapidly.

I watched a video from 2010 and at the end of it, it said 'coming holiday 2011'. I would've been nervous too and maybe even a little embarrassed, but I think the delay was a good thing.

If you look at older videos you'll see a difference between the ps3 and ps4 versions. One example being the feathers on that critter. They moved in waves on the ps3 but move individually on the ps4.

The game looks great. My kids loved the bird/dog thing. I do hope they fix the frame rate though. It looked sub 30fps at some parts.

Okay it's official, nobody fills Japanese game makers in on what the public is up to... ever.

People never forgot TLG, they got tortured by it and mad at it and vaporwared it and generally were mad at the lack of updates.

These people need more contact with reality.

Still looks subpar graphic-wise compared to other exclusives out now.
No matter, Ico and SoTC were all about art direction and level design, it is what made them great and is all I hope remained intact in TLG.
