Sony Sheds Light On Media Molecule's Intriguing Dreams
From what we saw of Media Molecule's Dreams at E3, it looked like an ambitious, intriguing project.
It certainly didn't look anything like LittleBigPlanet. But what is it, really? The on-stage presentation was short and sweet but not exactly detailed.
Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida clarified things a bit in a new GameSpot interview:
"In LittleBigPlanet you pretty much made new levels of an action game. With Dreams, you don't have to make a game. You can make a game, but if you're a painter, you can just create beautiful, painterly looking drawings. Or you can just animate the character. Or you can [remix] other people's creations."
Yoshida says the developers have big plans for the game, and they want to cater to those who may not be big-time gamers. In other words, those "who aren't trained to use the complex 3D packages." It's more about pure artistry, said Yoshida:
"We are envisioning artists or musicians will contribute something they're really good at, and share it with lots of people. It's a community of creators where anyone can take anyone's creations and mash-ups to create even grander projects, including games."
When will we see more? Yoshida says to expect a very big unveiling during Paris Games Week, so stay tuned for that.
