Uncharted 4 Not The Most Anticipated PS4 Exclusive Anymore?

After E3, perhaps a changing of the guard has taken place in the PlayStation world.

I know Sony ended their amazing conference with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End gameplay, as most expected (it was the only expected part of the entire show, in fact). And that footage, despite the hiccup at the start, was suitably impressive.

I don't think anybody would deny that Uncharted 4 is a hugely important title for PlayStation 4 and has every chance of being the best game of 2016. Still, the competition is already heating up for next year and given what Sony showed off, one has to wonder: Has Naughty Dog's upcoming blockbuster been supplanted by another PS4 exclusive that's kinda like the flavor of the month right now?

Obviously, I think there are two games that might vie for the most-wanted PS4 exclusive crown right now. One is The Last Guardian, which triumphantly returned and is now scheduled for 2016 (and at least we have good reason to trust that new estimate). Then there's the extremely promising Horizon: Zero Dawn from Killzone developer Guerrilla Games. That project has a massive amount of potential and already looks absolutely stellar. There's a ton of buzz for the new IP, too.

We can't really cite the Final Fantasy VII Remake, as ridiculously huge as that announcement was at E3. For one, it's only a timed exclusive and second, it's a remaster, not really a new game. Even so, I think that too served to steal a little of Uncharted 4's thunder and as a result, as strange as it may seem, Nathan Drake's last adventure seems to have taken a back seat.

Weird how fast that happens, isn't it?

I don't know if it's actually taken a back seat, it's just that as you said it was the only expected part of Sony's conference. At this point there's nothing really unknown about UC4 other than the exact release date and so it's not as exciting, new, or surprising as a firm confirmation of Last Guardian or Horizon: Zero Dawn.

I don't know about that... The interwebs might be talking about GG new ip more or other important titles mentioned. But that's - in my opinion - because it's new, something that hasn't been talked about for a year now.

Regardless, there's not a game out there that has me more excited than Uncharted 4. It's easily the most ambitious title coming to PS4 overall.

Like the 2 posts above, we know what we're getting in an Uncharted game, what's new and different is more exciting.

It's hard for me to be excited about The Last Guardian when the only footage we've seen is still from 2009.

Robot dinosaurs aren't really my thing, so despite how good Horizon looks it's not really on my radar.

Finding out how they finish Drake's story, and how far ND pushes the envelope with UC4, definitely has my interest.

I'm really hoping GG new IP turns out to be great, but im hoping it doesn't get hyped to death only to be a let down too

I don't know but here's a cool interview with ND about the game. They claim with PS4 creativity is the only thing that drives their decisions now. More or less, Technological limits are no longer a concern.

It's all about Uncharted. Uncharted 2 is some of the most fun I've ever had gaming.

Most anticipated or not, it's still one I cannot wait for. Will be killing my time with Batman (currently) and Phantom Pain later, awaiting for U4. And Horizon? It looks bad-ass but trailers are always like that. I will wait for reviews.

I think it's the multiplatform games people are most anticipating (Mirrors Edge, Deus Ex, Fallout 4) rather than the exclusives we might get to play next year , well at least I am.

But if we're just sticking with Playstation Exclusives, then yes I'm probably more interested in seeing more of Horizon than I am of Uncharted 4.

I'm glad to see that this addition to the amazing Uncharted franchise is going to be the closing chapter. I'd like to see the series go out on a high and see what else Naughty Dog have on the back burner. As much as I enjoyed Uncharted 3, it just lost some of that magic we got with Uncharted 2, though granted that game set the bar extremely high.

So true. UC2 made UC3 an afterthought for me.

The timing is prefect - it's due time to end that saga.

I'd not be surprised if there will be another "Uncharted" series though, with a new gallery of characters, some time further up the road.

It's too early to talk about Uncharted 4. 2016 is where the hype and anticipation begin...

I think the fact that it's exclusive for PS4 (and not also for PS3) lowers its "anticipation level."

Hell no, TLG's graphic is godlike but the gameplay from E3 is nothing jaw-dropping, I don't know about everyone else but I think it's boring.

After 2 decent games that didn't lived up to expectations, why are we expecting anything from Guerilla Games?

UC4 is still the most-wanted that's for sure.

Can't Say I was too impressed by the Last Guardian, it looks like a slightly upgraded version of the PS3 trailer.
Horizon looks fantastic, and while I'm extremely excited, it's another open world game which means mission quality and pacing will be lacking.

Uncharted 4 remains my most anticipated, as will every Naughty Dog game until someone else can reach their level.

Uncharted 4 is easily my most anticipated. It's a known commodity, and also will be the Nathan Drake swan song, so you know ND will go all out with crazy set pieces. Horizon is a runner up though. That game has me really excited.

I'm ok with the Last Guardian looking kind of dated. I'm more concerned with it not being the quality we've come to expect from Team Ico because seems to have gone through development purgatory. It also looks like it's way more Ico than Shadow of the Colossus. Which is ok, but stretches of that game were pretty boring/repetitive

Ben, Final Fantasy VII is going to be remade from the ground up. It's not just a remaster, isn't it?

Anyway, there's a lot of buzz for Horizon simply because it's a new IP and it was perfectly announced. They started with a gorgeous cutscene but nobody expected gameplay to seemlessly blend with it after a few minutes. That and and the fact that it came out of nowhere is what blew everyone away.

Uncharted remains to be one of PlayStation's biggest exclusives and Naughty Dog still is the top dog among Sony's own studios. But it's good to see that other studios are trying their best to reach the same level. Evolution, despite the disastrous launch of DriveClub, has already proven that they can deliver great gameplay with excellent graphics. And it seems that Guerilla is trying to do exactly that with Horizon: Zero Dawn. I like everything that I'm hearing so far about this game and I really hope it delivers.

I think the problem is that Sony's E3 conference was great on so many levels.

It's hard to shine bright when so many games and announcements are as bright as you are.

Uncharted 4 will deliver...

Square has said that FFVII is PlayStation only for now, with no plans for Xbox, though they didn't rule out other consoles, they said for now all focus is on PS4.
But of course, we've heard that one before, haven't we?
