Sony's Studios "Not Preoccupied" With Next-Gen Projects
Although many assume the new PlayStation will hit some time next year, Sony says they continue to focus on their current console.
In speaking to CVG, SCEE CEO Jim Ryan cited a key theme of Sony's E3 press conference: New IPs, which of course could lead to franchises. Ryan added that such innovation is "indicative of a platform that's got a long way to go yet."
That much we definitely agree with. But perhaps even more interesting was Ryan's claim that currently, Sony's first-party teams are not "preoccupied with work on next-generation projects." That's a relatively difficult quote to interpret - are they not working on PS4 stuff at all? ...only sparingly? - but we get the gist. The bottom line is that the PS3 has plenty left to offer and Sony knows it.
And by now, so should everyone else.

I think MS will jump the gun and release a new system and it will have issues just like the 360 had and I think this next time around if it has a RROD type syndrome I think people will be like oh HELL NO not this again!
I think Sony is keeping it very hush hush this time around and I know they will have a good line up of games for the launch as they learned a lot from the PS3 launch.

And I agree that the Xbox is maxed out, and has been for some time.

The hot rumour going around is that Google are preparing a shift to the PS3 architecture to boost their server park capacities, although they are worried that the insane powers of Cell CPUs are too much to handle for them.
Many of you might not know this but last I heard, New York City council are planning on letting the majors sons PS3 control the traffic, not only for the city but the entire state! They expect that to double the capacity of the road infrastructure - the savings are gigantic. All while the son is playing Uncharted 3.
I am sure that in 20 years from now they will have massive space ships controlled by a single PS3, once they've fully figured out how to write proper code for it.

In an interview with the vp of sony (NA branch I believe) was asked about ps4 and if any games were in development, he said he had no information he could give but did admit that ofcouse they had several ps4 games that were being worked on.
Either way, I am glad Sony exists because no one has ever given me such a wide variety of quality game choices before.

GT5 is a title many people expected soon after launch and GT6 would definitely give some people some motivation to moving onto the next generation.
Who knows though, it wouldn't surprise me if GT6 does make it on the ps3.
And what about a vita game from them? I also think thats a possibility.

Either way as consumers, we should be happy. Its tough for companies to support 2 generations of systems for a long amount of time, but I get the feeling that Sony is the only one out of the 3 console makers that would do it the best.

Out of that I take that the PS4 when released will be expensive and we may have to wait a while. I also got the PS3 has a lot more life in it with these type of statements..

Pure marketing. That's all these statements are.

I still think 2013 is insanely early to expect hardware from Sony.
I don't know why Microsoft would even make more hardware, they have almost no exclusive games left.

Most of the CE manufacturers, Sony included, have always worked on discrete devices, such as DVD or BluRay players, TVs, sometimes TVs with integrated DVD or BluRay. They use format standards to unify entertainment devices from different makers so that consumers have choice what to buy.
With SmartGlass, once you buy in, you are completely locked into Microsoft's SmartGlss world. As much as Sony is trying to bring all of it's own services under the SEN umbrella, their approach is still closer to the CE approach of discrete devices and open standards shared by all for common formats and interoperability.
What this does mean though is that if MS thinks that SmartGlass is the focus o it's way to dominance, the games side of things will wither slowly. So long as third parties support MS as well as they have, MS doesn't have to worry if their first party games wither. In the end though, I get the sense that MS has focused their attention back on their desire for living room dominance, and away from the games. That might not be smart in the longer term.

which i find really hard to believe, there has to be a few studios which are working on nothing but ps4 tech.
if he really does mean no one is working on ps4 tech than its just another case of no one being better at contradicting themselves than $ony!
Scott Rohde in a interview with GTTV today said its common knowledge that the company has studios working on ps4 games.
