Bungie Details The Taken King: It's One Massive Expansion

The Destiny experience will expand significantly in September, and developer Bungie wants you to know it's "more than DLC."

In a new blog post, Bungie has listed the contents of the huge content package that will launch on September 15 for $40.

It's a hefty list, which supports the team's claim that in fact, it's not just an expansion, "it's a game." Check it out:

-- New story missions and an array of sidequests that conspire to tell the story of our battle to defend our Solar System against Oryx and his Taken army

-- New narrative driven by cinematic cutscenes starring an engaging cast of characters

-- New Exotic Weapons, Exotic Armor, and Exotic Questlines

-- The Dreadnaught, a full new destination, with unique secrets, rituals, and treasures to uncover

-- A new breed of enemy combatants, The Taken, armed with new abilities and weapons

-- An increased Level Cap, and new ways for your Guardian to grow more powerful

-- The most substantial injection of new, unique, and redesigned weapons, armor, and talents to date

-- New subclasses with all new Supers and abilities

-- New cooperative Strikes with unique and dynamic new Boss battles

-- Redesigned and reimagined Strikes Dust Palace, Undying Mind, and Cerberus Vae III are now overrun by the Taken

-- New Crucible multiplayer maps with new Crucible modes, including the previously revealed Rift and Mayhem

-- And, of course, last but not least, our biggest six-player Raid yet.

And that's not all. Bungie adds that they'll talk about "a range of topics that we know are important to you, including weapon rebalancing, economy improvements, an overhauled quest experience, bounty enhancements, faction allegiances, end game content, and more." Will you be getting The Taken King when it comes out?

Everytime I think about going back to Destiny some other big game lands and steals away me away. The straight run of Order-Bloodborne-Witcher-Batman-MGS has gobbled up more time than I have or will have for a while.

Anyway, this expansion is garnering some hype. I just sorta feel shafted that the game doesn't open up Raids to matchmaking.

EDIT: Anyone notice how expensive this game is becoming?
60 + 20 + 20 + 40
That's $140 within a year for the complete Destiny experience. One could argue that all of this content should've been bundled in the original game from the start.

Yeah Bungies price point for this game is terrible. The worst thing about it is the last content didn't have a raid at all and they charged consumers the same price as the first piece of dlc.

I'm not impressed with how they have handled dlc for this game. I'm fine with the content itself - it's fun - but the lack of content, and price are just off.

But the fortunate thing is the gameplay is fun. I just wish the was 4 player co-op instead of 3.

Activision is responsible for the pricing, not Bungie.

Really? What difference does it make? Bungie developed and is creating the content. Whether or not Activision decides what to price it at, doesn't change the fact.

The original game had a lot of those selling points.

The cinematic story for this expansion is very hard to trust. They said the vanilla game would have an amazing story and it did not.

Lets see if they can make the boss battles actually interesting and not just bullet sponges with this new expansion.

I've actually enjoyed the prison of elders more than the raids simply because it's easier to find two other competent players rather than five.

On a slightly unrelated note, what kind of idiot gives their prisoners full arsenals? Now that's hubris
