Bungie: We're Not Close To Realizing Destiny's Potential

Destiny is a pretty big game but the developers think it still has a long ways to go.

In a Conversations With Creators roundtable interview (see it below), Bungie Lead Designer Luke Smith says the team isn't satisfied with Destiny. No, they're still pushing.

He says the game in question has a ridiculous amount of potential and the work is far from over:

"I actually don't think there are many, or any, people on the Bungie team who look at Destiny as a job well done.

It's like a job in progress that has a ridiculous amount of work in front of us and huge amount of potential that we haven't met at all in a bunch of ways. We've met it in other ways, but that potential is the thing we're still chasing.",/p>

The Taken King is a huge expansion that's coming in September (check out the special PS4 bundle) and in fact, Bungie has said it's not really fair to just call it "DLC." In fact, it's like a whole new game.

And that appears to be the mindset of the studio moving forward: Keep producing more content and trying to realize the title's full potential.

Destiny is like a high budget beta that's really small and repetitive. It didn't match what they said it was AT ALL.

If there's so much potential in it why are they talking Destiny 2?

I'd have to respectfully disagree.
I've had enough enjoyment from Destiny to pay for it ten fold. I love the constant improvements with each update. The story does kind of suck, but everything else is just so good. The gun mechanics is as good as Halo, which is basically the best there is, IMO.

When you say enjoyment do you mean hours played or the actual quality of the depth and content of the game. If you mean hours, I've played many games for over 300 hours worth and payed no more than 60 bucks for it. If your talking about quality of depth and content, I just can't see it. It's too repetitive, 20 dollar expansion isn't much, and not enough adventure at all imo. As far as updates go many games are doing that too post release. Unless you can give me more compelling reason, I don't see anything special about this game.

A lot of my friends have since traded the game and lost interest in this. Some were a bit peeved at the items that can't be got and having to pay extra etc so traded it.

I got mine 2nd hand made it to level 5 on one of the classes and thought I can't be bothered to do this with the other 2 classes and traded it.

You got to level 5....
That's like saying I couldn't do the bronze licence in Gran Turismo so I gave up

I'll have to start using that on the guitar player's forums - when somebody posts a song that really sucks, I'll say "It's got a huge amount of potential" lol.

I can totally see more potential in Destiny as well. I mean, there are things in there that have never really been realized...

-- your ghost. The inventory slot suggests more future ghosts, but how/when?
-- your sparrow. Sure, you can get 1 or 2 other ones, but they're all basically the same.
-- bonds. 99% of all the bonds have no description, so you don't know what/if there are any advantages to wearing them.

There's probably others, but those are ones that come to mind.
So, yes... lots of potential and lots of things to work on for Destiny.

Yeah, huge potential to charge gamers for $$$$. I can't believe a model like this gets people to accept it. It's not even a mmorpg, no where deep as it, and it costs more than you would pay for them monthly. I mean what's the cost to own the game from launch and owning every DLC content and expansion since then?

Anybody can say full potential is far away. Kaz from PD has been saying it since forever. Thank goodness they're not running this model.

I paid $60.00 for the base game and $40.00 for the DLC one and two.

As it works out, it's cost me about $10.00 per month to play the game.

Broke down further, I am paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $0.75 per hour to enjoy Destiny's world.

Where is the problem again?

Destiny hasn't been perfect and it's well documented, but nearly everyone on my friends list has put hundreds of hours into this game.

Personally speaking, Destiny was all I pretty much played for 10 months straight.
