Need For Speed: Rivals Revealed, Another Cross-Generation Title

It's never long between Need for Speed installments.

EA has announced a new entry, and this one will be available for both current and next-gen systems. It's called Need for Speed: Rivals and it'll utilize the fancy new Frostbite 3 engine. In development at Ghost Games, the game is designed to "capture the adrenaline and intensity of the street's ultimate rivalry between cops and racers, in a stunning open road environment." Wonder just how "open"...

The game has a launch date of November 19 for the current consoles, and we'll get a release date for the next-gen iteration soon. We will adopt the role of either a racer or cop and each side has its own challenges and rewards. If you're a racer, your goal is to become the most infamous driver on the road; if you're a cop...well, your goal is to stop the racer. The latter will rank up by evading the police; as cops, you'll work together in a team pursuit. You'll unlock new vehicles and other gears as time goes on, too, and that's always cool.

Rivals will also welcome the return of Ferrari after a long absence. Furthermore, an innovative new feature called AllDrive will let players "seamlessly transition between single-player and multiplayer mode." Unsurprisingly, the Autolog will also return, and we like the sound of 11 upgrade-able gadgets like turbos, jammers and EMPs. This sounds like a bad-ass mix of Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted, doesn't it?

Better not be another Burnout game disguised as a Need for Speed game.

Who cares? The last installment was one of the best arcade racers of the generation. No one complained about it being too much like another game the same developer created.

I have to disagree with you big. I thought while it was an good game, it was an disappointment. I don't think it should've been called an Most Wanted game. Maybe if it was called something else I would've enjoyed it more.

You're quite wrong. I've seen plenty of people complain about that. The name was misleading ad you know it. It's like calling DriveClub the Gran Turismo 6.

Not to be the troll on the wall here: When PS3 came out and some games were available also on the PS2 I opted to get those PS2 games. I held off for a few years (Whenever the PS3 Slim 120gb came out, that's when I got in.) and in the mean time felt I was being given an inferior product between the PS2 and PS3 versions (Tomb Raider Underworld, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, Spider-Man 3, etc.). We know that the newer system has better graphics but what annoys me most is that huge chunks of games are sliced clear out. This generational shift I think I shall avoid buying cross-generational games. No Assassins Creed 4 for me this year. When I finally buy a PS4 then I shall pick-up those cross-gen titles. At least this way I can have a little time to play down my huge PS3 backlog and build up a little one for PS4.

I always feel that with these cross-gen titles, both gens get the short end of the stick. Current-gen usually misses out on some things and next-gen doesn't reach the potential it could since they have to keep in mind porting it to the previous-gen. But I totally understand the reasoning behind going cross-gen and I'm all for the developers making more money to allow for better and more games in the future :)

I'm really hoping the cars are as customizable as NFS Underground 2..

I'd rather just play GTAV and be able to do this in a more realistic fashion whilst having shootouts too :)

so you can race as both?
O, and PLEASE for the love of god, PLEASE get rid of the slow heavy sluggish controls criterion introduced with most wanted!
such a brilliant game, but could not enjoy it simply because of the stupid controls.
and same goes for every game since.

that said though, i wish they would create a sequel to undercover, but with the boss progression and reward system of most wanted.
undercover had THE best escape the cops chases they were so much fun, and you had so many breakers to run through, scaffolding for instance, to disrupt the cops and help you get away.
even the road blocks were better done.
such a brilliant game, we totally need a sequel for it!

in fact, i hope they dont use the cops system like was in hot pursuit that was SO boring!
use the cop system that was in undercover, make us doge all the the scaffolding, and sh*t the racer flies through to try make us crash.
that would be SO much more exhilarating and fun than the crap in hot pursuit!

I only care about the Shift series from NFS.

Plus, I'll be too busy with GT6 and Drive Club to care about any NFS game for quite some time.
