PS4 UK Ad Confirms 2013 Launch Window

It's good to know our European friends won't be left out in the cold in 2013.

While it has been widely assumed that the PlayStation 4 would launch this year in all territories, that hasn't been officially confirmed. When Sony announced their new system back in February and said it was "coming Holiday 2013," they neglected to mention specific regions.

But according to a new European PS4 ad, it's now clear that the PS4 should launch across the pond in 2013. This was spotted in today's Metro newspaper in the UK and then later Tweeted; the ad just says- "Coming 2013." Remember, while the PS3 launched in mid-November of 2006 in the US, Euro gamers had to wait until March of 2007. The bad news is that that was a last-second delay so we suppose it could happen again... But for now, let's be optimistic, shall we?

Ideally, there will be more than enough consoles to go around this time, too. That was another huge issue with the PS3 launch; however, with more common components that are cheaper and easier to manufacture, we shouldn't experience a PS4 shortage.

They must be pretty well-assured as to supply or they wouldn't have committed to a 2013 release in Europe. Earlier in the year, there was speculation that they could shift 16 million units by the end of their financial year in spring 2014. If they can stay out of the way of the Microsoft self-immolation and communicate their message well, then it'll be a good year for them.

16 Million times the number Xbox One disappointed defectors equals one gigantic opportunity for Sony.

I believe I remember there being a report soon after the PS4 reveal that they were going to have 16 million units produced and ready for launch day by the end of August.

Hopefully they can have 20-24 million units ready by launch day, just to accommodate the influx of Xbox defectors. :)

I think this will be one of those cases where the lesson was learned the last go round.
