EA: E3 2012 Felt Like "Half A Show" With No Next-Gen

No new hardware, no huge excitement.

Or so says EA. With no next-generation hardware announcement from either Sony or Microsoft, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau said E3 2012 was "only half a show", and third-parties were allowed to shine.

"You're only really getting half a show this year. You're getting Wii U but you're not getting the other half of the story so it's a bit awkward. Within that context I think a lot of the third-parties definitely stand out and command more of the spotlight because it's a clear and more broad-based message."

As for EA's next-gen projects, Gibeau said now isn't the time to talk about them. He said that "gamers are smart" and they'll sniff out a pre-rendered movie or something like that. So it's important to give them something realistic; Gibeau cited last year's 14 minutes of Battlefield 3 gameplay as an example of what they'd want to deliver to the fans. Until they can, they'll keep their fancy futuristic titles under wraps.

Um I guess he only saw Microsoft's E3 show? Sony had plenty of 1st party exclusive content shown for the PS3. WTF does future generation hardware have to do with the amount of 3rd party vs 1st party software shown?

BTW rather late update, I'm hoping you were too busy watching Lebron destroy the Celtics.

I get it, but it isn't half a show just because next gen stuff wasn't shown for the other two consoles. It's not ready so what the hey?

Yeah, no need for that stuff just yet - software is still going strong. And if Sony and MS talked about the next gen consoles this early, they would just be undermining the sales of their current consoles.

I agree with EA. Of course there were some good titles and stuff, but what I am *dying* to get to know more about is the next generation hardware.

thats a bit harsh.
no one expected and wanted next gen systems this year!
all we wanted was a few more new games to be announced, and something that we cant see coming from 100KMs away!
i mean dead space 3 was not exactly surprising everyone saw it coming, and not only because so much of it had been leaked!
if EA were to reveal BLACK 2 for instance everyone would of been sh*tting bricks!
if ubisoft were to reveal beyond good and evil 2 everyone would of been sh*tting bricks!
if M$ was to reveal a new banjo kazooie game everyone would of been sh*tting bricks!
if $ony was to reveal 8 days and the getaway 3 everyone would of been sh*tting bricks!
E3 was a massive disappointment because of the lack of new game announcements.
and the few that were there were not exactly surprising!

Honestly I know I watched the EA presentation and I can't remember a single thing from it. So maybe he should just drop the Hardware line look in a mirror and say that about EA. I remember a bunch of other stuff being shown 1st or 3rd party, but not a thing from EA.

I take that back I remember fast forwarding threw Madden coverage.

They're just jealous because they couldn't compete with the likes of The Last of Us, BEYOND: Two Souls and the Final Fantasy tech demo showing of their luminous studio power, lol.
