Would You Rather Have A Classic Reboot Or A Brand New IP?
On the one hand, you've got the option of a classic reboot; for the sake of argument, a reboot of a game you always loved.
On the other hand, you've got a brand new and hugely promising IP. Think Horizon: Zero Dawn or something like that.
The unveiling of these two very different types of products results in very different reactions. There are many who say reboots can only thrive on rampaging nostalgia; otherwise, nobody would have any interest in playing an amped-up version of an old game. Others say there were elements in the gameplay in certain old adventures that you simply can't find today, and getting revamped iterations of old-school classics can open the eyes of a younger generation.
Others will say that without new IPs, everything just stagnates and dies. The kind of enthusiasm generated by such titles is very fresh-feeling. Granted, we're talking about something unproven but at the same time, we've got untapped and perhaps limitless potential. So, as with many things, there are two schools of thought on this issue.
Where do you stand?
