The Witcher 3 Patch 1.07 Has Upgrades But Frame Rate Drops

The latest huge patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available, but is it the upgrade everyone wanted?

Well, that depends. On the one hand, we get several big additions that significantly alter the experience. On the other hand, Digital Foundry finds that frame rate in the PlayStation 4 version takes a hit. Here's part of the unfortunate analysis:

"With the new patch installed, the PS4 version doesn't get off lightly either. A route through the bog shows frame-rates lower than our original 1.05 test, where its lock at 20fps holds more consistently as we pass through the boggy thicket. On top of that, even traveling through simple countryside roads (or Novigrad's central city) continues to produce single-frame stutters every few seconds - a rough point we had hoped would be ironed out by now.

Overall, little has improved in PS4's bid for a smooth 30fps reading here, and in fact, the tail-end of our Novigrad test shows dips to 25fps as we hit the marketplace - something not seen on the last patch."

On the plus side, we get a personal stash, much better inventory management and menu organization, and several big control tweaks. The horse handles a little better now, and you can choose an alternate control scheme for Geralt. This removes his tank-like momentum-based physics and allows him to react faster. I suppose one could argue that turning on a dime isn't realistic, but neither is any other aspect of a fantasy RPG.

If you're still playing the game, have you experienced frame rate issues after downloading the patch?

The features are nice but now I can actually notice a frame rate drop..and if I notice it then that means it's bad because I never care about frame rate stuff.

Also they raised the level requirements for the armour!! Now I can't wear any of my mastercrafted armour that I spent hours getting. Not cool CDPR...

But yeah, to sum up the update, a few much wanted features but all in all a step backwards in terms of playability and randomly changing the levels of gear.

Frame rate drop is noticeable, but never game breaking. That personal stash is a god send. Can't believe Dragon Age Inquisition never gave us a personal treasure chest. Freaking dumb. I mean you can store your equipment in random chest all through out the Elder Scroll games! ;)

Wow that is dreadful. I really want to add to PS4 collection and Platinum but goddamn getting it on PC seems to be a 5x better decision! Not updating rig until the next batch of GPUs thoooooooo.
