Impending Epic E3 Battle: PS4 Games vs. Xbox One Games

The stage is set.

E3 2013 is already shaping up to be a colossal PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One war, during which time gamers are hoping to see only one thing: More games.

At this point, I think they're tired of hearing about all the other features and advancements; I think core gamers are thirsty for some actual game announcements, especially after last week's terrible Xbox One unveiling. At least Sony focused on games during their presentation of the PS4 back in February, but they have to maintain that focus. Besides, Microsoft has already said they'll be bringing plenty of titles to E3, so Sony can't just sit on their laurels and relax. Doing so would be a critical mistake.

To be more specific, this isn't just about the games; this is more about exclusive software. PlayStation has basically owned that particular crown for several generations running (considering PS3 vs. 360 exclusives, it's not even close), and many hardcore gamers believe that trend will continue. We're all expecting to hear that inFamous: Second Son will be dated for the PS4 launch, for example. That would be four exclusives for that system's release; Killzone: Shadow Fall, inFamous: Second Son, DriveClub and Knack. And those are just the ones we know about right now.

But didn't Microsoft say they've got "15 exclusives" coming in the first year? You have to assume at least a few will be available at launch. We know about Forza Motorsport 5, for instance. So really, it's going to be an exclusive battle and while Sony may have the edge - they usually do when it comes to exclusives - that doesn't mean Microsoft can't still wow the crowd. ...it just seems unlikely at this point, that's all.

I will be on the edge of my seat. I hope Sony remembers not to go off on too many tangents about "what it can do". They should include that all in a very quick montage and then bring the games.

MS on the other hand has filled E3 up with stalling techniques for awhile now. It has been weird inventions like Smartglass to voice commands to a big Kinect focus to CoD.

Ryse seems to be their new hope, a hardcore game for Kinect that is going to flop. Other than that all they can push are some short term ideas that tend to look like conference trolling.

Well, we know it plays games [Ps4]. Im more interested in "what can it do" now. As far as games go, Im not worried. It will do just fine.

and thats exactly why xboxs reveal was better, M$ already got the what can it do out of the way.
$ony will have to waste half their conference on that and pricing and launch details, not to mention wasting time on the ps3 and vita.
what time will be lest for showing off some ps4 games?

On the contrary, underline. Microsoft's reveal has left a ton of questions about their console, and they keep muddying the waters with every obscure response. If they don't take some time at E3 to bring some clarity to technical issues like DRM, used game policies, and their internet connection requirements, they'll still be dealing with a lot of suspicion and hostility.

And since Microsoft has not addressed "pricing and launch details" any more than Sony, why do you think they have some kind of advantage?

So no, they haven't gotten all the non-game stuff out of the way, as you keep insisting.

i said they have already talked about the what it can do features.
what does online DRM, or used game policy, have to do with what it can do like the kinect integration, home menu, multitasking and such.
at least they showed the console off, and showed off the home menu and how its laid out and how you access everything.
they have shown off a hell of allot more system specific features than what $ony has!

And speaking of epic. if Epic is smart they'll back off of any long term exclusivity deal with MS first chance they get.

Considering how much Epic games praised the PS4 as opposed to saying NOTHING about the Xbone, and the fact that they were actually present at the PS4 reveal. I'm not too worried about that.

The past few E3s have let me down, maybe it's the unfair hype I always end up feeling. But I have a really good feeling about this year. I think Sony is going to deliver the mega load and that excites the hell out of me. Course there I go with the hype again...

3 Hour sony conference. Has to make you think, they must have a LOT to show!

Even though like 30 mins of that will be the Destiny showcase, but still! Destiny has PS4 exclusive content :D

HAHA! Actually that's funny. Sony's conference is still longer than MS', even though Sony has huge multiplat games on show for their preso.

I'm sure sony will unveil a couple of move related titles that will leave us all shrugging, but for the most part I expect them to showcase a plethora of new games for us to drool over.

If Xone can get past Forza, Halo, Gears, and kinect, I'll be surprised. Meaning they will have to show something that is not connected with any of those, but they probably won't.

I think Sony is going to double their launch titles from 4 to 8. Something from Media Molecule, The Witness, and two unknown IPs Microsoft can make a very strong showing at E3. Forza 5, Ryse, and Quantum Break. They say Rare is going back to an historic IP. I'm guessing Killer Instinct or Conker. Hoping for Killer Instinct. Or maybe Battletoads! Also, they are putting a lot of money into their Black Tusk Studio, rumored to be working ona big new IP, as well. Microsoft showed that they could bring great games in the first 4 years last gen. They just need to stay consistent in the next and not worry about every game from their studios selling a trillion copies.

I'd be mildly jealous of a Killer Instinct resurrection, but honestly I dont' have the timing skills to play one of those games anymore. You had to be really on the ball for those combos.

I guess I'm wondering about the used games I read about that MS has back off from, but MS's position was to take a cut from used game sales, I was wondering "what's the cut"....the argument was for developers, MS made a cut for themselves....what the deal between the 2 and how much does that change with the negative feed back of DRM....How will that effect their 15 titles announced?

Off topic of course....

I think MS has more going for them than what they have revealed. I will be completely shocked if they come out flat with nothing to excite people.

Personally I would prefer the healthy competition of almost equal products. Especially in the exclusive arena. The Exclusivity is REALLY what makes the difference here. Not just a multiplat game and which system it looks or runs better on. Without the Exclusives... well, whats the point.

Sony, yes, better keep focus AND reveal some choice games and software that no one saw coming. Last Guardian would be a fantastic surprise for me. Might even get me to buy the PS4 early... maybe.

My only concern now is Sony will be out shone by some big surprises. It looks unlikely but now MS is seen as the underdog... underdogs sometimes win. UGH. The tension and excitement and worry is out there. Its now a matter of waiting for the big day at E3.

Keep Playing!

The thing I want most from this E3 is the same damned thing I've wanted most from the last several E3's... The Last Guardian!

Sony badly needs to either put this one to bed, or give us an update.

As for PS4 vs XB1. My popcorn maker is ready :)

How many of MS's 15, is really exclusive IP's, after the used game market come's to light, MS has 4 major's and a blockbuster deadhead with COD #throwingmoney@money...(old school,
takes money to make money)...(which is multiplat)..That's IT....and the way their reveal went off...seems like "X"bone is going more Social and TV than games

This E3 is going to be a huge deciding factor for many. We've seen the consoles, now we want the games! As of now the Wii-U has is winning my rate of interest with a new Xenoblade - Which will take a lot to beat that, so I am hoping the PS4 will have a lot to offer. Dare I even have hope in S-E they said they'll have a new title but I fear it may be Type-0 or Versus, which is not good enough I want a completely new Final Fantasy to bring the new generation in. My other series favourite Metal Gear Solid V is going to be on the PS3... so am still curious to see what the PS4 will have to offer me at E3.

I won't be able to see the presentations live because I'll be at work, but I'll definitely be checking them out as soon as I get home.

I'm excited to see what both companies have in store for us at E3, but I'm still going to get the PS4 day one, no matter how impressive Microsoft's presentation is.

Looking back on the Playstation 4 reveal, it kind of sent chills up my spine. The good kind of chills. The huge screens, the beautiful music, the games, my God, THE GAMES!!!

Xbox One.... no excitement. A few big screens up the front on stage (Sony conference had screens that wrapped around the walls, it was beautiful) and a guy waving his hands in front of the screen and giving voice commands.

With the new PS4 camera, the PS4 could easily emulate voice and gesture commands for navigating stuff. But Sony know that nothing beats good old fashioned buttons or touch screen commands.

Xbox One has a lot to prove, cos so far, I'm not sold. PS4 looks mighty tempting, but I don't feel any excitement for the next gen of consoles compared to, say... the PS2 reveal in 1999.

Anyone else feeling less excited about a new console like me? I don't know what's happened, but a new console just doesn't have the same incredible punch like it once did over a decade ago.

What's kind of interesting to note is how many of these 15 exclusives we already know about. Giving the benefit of the doubt that they're talking about first party efforts, we can include: Forza, Ryse, Kinect One, Kinect Fitness, Black Tusk's space shooter, Fable MMO, and Rare's new game. There's also the healthy possibility that Halo 5 will be out within the console's first year. So, that's 7-8 right there. If it includes third-party exclusives (such as Titan, Quantum Break, and the rumored Dead Rising and Insomniac title) the list gets even smaller. Given I'm inherently biased towards Sony, I don't find this potential roster to be that compelling.

I only see one game that I would buy, killzone. They are going to need at least 5 games before I buy a PS4. Five must have games and I dont do indie games.

I dont need a fancy TV controller=XBONE.
I usually buy both platforms but not this time.
I havent bought a game for the XBOX Since Halo4 and gears 3, both are A-1 purchases.

Im not buying either untill I see some games that just blow me away. I have a huge backlogto grind with the PS3. Funny enough my VITA has been hogging all the playtime.Been doing a little RPG action.
