New PS4/Vita Game Actually Changes Based On Weather

Okay, first things first: You play as a spider.

That's the basic premise behind the newly announced Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon, as revealed over at the PlayStation Blog.

But that's not really the selling point. It's a cool concept and all but it might take a backseat to the real-time weather system. Check this out:

"Imagine you’re riding the bus and playing a great game on your PS Vita. The bus drives into a rain cloud, and… can that be? Now it’s raining inside the game! Later at home, thanks to the one-two punch of Cross Buy and Cloud Save, you pick up where you left off on your PS4. And when the sun sets outside your window, it becomes night in the level you were just playing! That’s what happens in our upcoming game, Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon, thanks to the positional features of PS Vita and PS4."

Interesting, no? As for the game itself, you can walk along walls and ceiling, jump, and spin your silk to form a web. That's how you catch insects in any given location. As you progress, you'll find that you're exploring a huge abandoned estate, the Blackbird Estate, and it's filled with mysteries and puzzles. Everything is affected by the weather outside your own door, though:

At night, fireflies and crickets come out, while moths circle the lights. The mosquitoes and inchworms are out when it rains, and clear days will find all sorts of insects, like hornets (which require a stronger web). Time and weather even affect the story and puzzles; for example, when it's raining, you can't crawl up a water spout. Even moon phases have an impact.

You just gotta try this when it comes out. No release estimate yet, unfortunately.

I was wondering when someone was going to pull this move. I was almost convinced the weather on Witcher was dependent on on the conditions outside. I hope this has something else going for it otherwise it's just another indi-side scroller

Looks pretty cool and intriguing, however, I only have time to game at night. So my spider would never see the light of day!

I remember one of the NCAA football games using real time weather. I would be playing a game and as long as I had it set to real time weather, it would connect to a weather site and make the weather in the game the same as it was at my location. It didn't adjust for time of day though. That is pretty cool.

I remember rumors floating around that this feature was supposed to make its way into a Gran Turismo game a while back.

This is really cool.
