Amplitude Delayed Again, But Lots More Content Planned

It's one of those good news/bad news situations.

First, the bad news: The new Amplitude effort for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 has been pushed back again.

This delay was announced on the project's Kickstarter page, where Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos explains the increase in the game's scope, which will require more time.

The game was originally expected to launch in March, got pushed to a summer release window, and unfortunately, is now set for some time early net year. Backers eligible to receive early access can play the PS4 version in December "prior to the holiday break," though. Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos admits that it's a disappointment but their "highest priority is to deliver the best game we possibly can to our fans."

The good news is that added scope:

"We’ve decided to double down, increase the project budget, and make the new Amplitude bigger and better than the scope of game we originally pitched to you all last year."

Now, we'll get online leaderboards, two new environments, and new game modes: Solo free play, free-for-all (for 2-4 players), team play (1 vs. 3 or 2 vs. 2 modes) and a complete solo campaign. Plus, the original estimate of 16 songs has been bumped all the way up to 30, and if you backed the project at a high enough tier, you'll get an extra song.

We still won't get an online multiplayer mode, but that's because the campaign needed to hit $1.125 million and crowdfunding ended up at $844,127. Rigopulos said online multiplayer would be "impossible within our budget means for this game, even with the expanded budget." Eh, don't need it, anyway. Just get us Amplitude ASAP!
