RE2 Fan Remake Canceled, But On The Best Of Terms
Many say a big reason why we're getting a Resident Evil 2 Remake from Capcom is because the fan group InvaderGames tried it first.
But the team that had been working on Resident Evil 2: Reborn isn't bitter about Capcom's announcement of an official project. Not even after being asked by Capcom to halt progress on the fan effort.
Actually, as a member of the studio explained on NeoGAF:
"Contrary to what might be thought, [the announcement of an official remake] is wonderful news for us. As fans, we're so happy that Capcom has decided to take the lead [on] the project.
Nobody could bring the 1998 masterpiece back to life better than the creators themselves."
Furthermore, InvaderGamers has been asked to visit Capcom "to discuss further ideas," so that's pretty cool. They say they regret not being able to complete the Reborn project, but at least it was noticed by Capcom, and it led to the official game. So, all's well that ends well.
