Sony: Sign Up Now To Help Us Test A "Major" PS4 Update

Game betas are common. But here's your chance to test a system update for the PlayStation 4.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, Sony is holding a beta test for the PS4's next "major update."

If you're interested, click here to be part of the testing process; all you need is an Internet-connected PS4 and a PSN master account. Signing up doesn't guarantee you entry, though, so you better move fast before all the positions fill up. The beta gets rolling in "early September" but beyond that, we have no details.

If you do get in and test the update, once the testing is over, you can revert back to the current update (2.57). We just don't know what exactly is included with this "major" update, nor do we know how long the beta will last. It's a bit of a mystery for now...

And this line in the beta agreement makes me a little nervous: "SCEI WILL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOST PROFITS, COST OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS, LOSS OF DATA OR ANY OTHER FORM OF DIRECT OR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES FROM ANY CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THIS AGREEMENT OR THE BETA PRODUCT"

In my reading and understanding of this, if the beta bricks your PS4, they're not liable. Hopefully, they'd still fix or replace your PS4 but legally they wouldn't have to.

lol No. That's like... every waiver of liability ever and you can find it in basically every product... every sports league... every... everything.

In other words, if a freak accident happens, you understand it isn't their fault. Waivers do not exempt anyone from negligence, though.
