Yeah, MGSV Will Rock But Don't Forget About Until Dawn
Okay, so it seems obvious that Kojima and Co. have produced another masterpiece.
And it's all too easy to say, "oh, it's coming out on September 1; I'd better just wait." You'd be missing out on a hugely promising PlayStation 4 exclusive if you glossed over this week, though.
Until Dawn launches on Tuesday and for many horror fans, this could be one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences of 2015. But we've seen it happen so many times before: A really good, interesting game has a release date that's simply too close to something like MGSV. Then, it just recedes into the shadows, barely registering a blip on the gamer hype meter.
It always drives me nuts when this happens, even when we're talking about one of my all-time favorite franchises (Metal Gear Solid). I still remember when Enslaved: Odyssey to the West launched in early October, a week or two before a deluge of gi-mongous titles hit the market. There's a good reason why, in the years to follow, many publishers pushed their games out of the jam-packed fall schedules. They just didn't want their products to get lost amid the blockbusters.
And while September isn't exactly "packed," MGSV is already creating quite the buzz and don't forget that Mad Max also launches on the same day. Until Dawn deserves a chance, damnit! That's all I'm saying.
