MGSV Microtransactions Revealed, Range From $1.65 - $80

Just remember: They are optional.

Gamers have known for a while that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have microtransactions, and now thanks to the Metal Gear Network, we've got those prices.

As you can see, the prices for Mother Base Coins - which can also be earned when tackling the multiplayer portion of the game - range widely, from as low as a couple bucks to as high as $80. These Mother Base Coins are used in the Forward Operating Base (FOB) online mode, which is where you can go head-to-head with other players. This is not Metal Gear Online, the other mode slated to arrive in October.

The microtransactions are there to speed up the gameplay; you can reach higher levels that much faster. That is, of course, if you're willing to pay. Konami has made it clear that microtransactions don't affect the balance of the game, and they're not necessary for the FOB mode.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch on September 1 (yup, tomorrow) and the publisher says it's "guaranteed" to be Game of the Year. You'll probably end up agreeing, huh?

I played all weekend long and I can tell you that it doesn't take up a lot of your time leveling up so I personally think it's best earning the experience the natural way. MGS has never been this refreshing and with so many things to do and different ways to get the job done.

I must say that they did a good job of not allowing me to get a sniper rifle with a suppressor in the beginning or it might have been too easy for me. Something you all may notice from this entry is the fact the story may feel too mission oriented and you may get sidetracked at times but it's manageable.

Ben, how are you liking the game?

But this is for the MP portion which won't be added until October. I imagine it will take more "grinding" if you want to call it that to earn cash in the MP section of the game than what it takes to earn in the campaign.

So these are essentially the equivalent of the Shark Cards in GTA5?

I hope it doesn't take as much time to earn coins in this as it does in GTA5. I don't even bother with the MP since it takes too much time to earn money.

I get the point of having the option to purchase in-game stuff if you don't have the time to play as much as others but in reality most gamers always had the time to play.

I see micro-transactions more as a bait for those that want the shortcut and want to show off virtual items.

Konami won't get any money from me because I'll be sticking to the offline portion where's there's plenty of replay value.

Man making a living in GTAV's Los Angeles is harder than actually living in Los Angeles. Rockstar started making mission worth less money. They all, but made winning races pointless unless you wanted to reach certain thresholds to unlock car upgrades. First place, $10K. Patched it, first place, $2K. WTF Rockstar??? The game is a pure grindfest.

Thank god I got a 1 billion dollar bounty on me during the heyday of stealing online money from Rockstar. Just waited in my apartment for 45mins and bammm, I was one of the richest bastards until they patched it out. But at the point, I had bought everything I need. THis was before the PS4 releaseh
