PS4 Doesn't Need Exclusives; It Has MGSV To Drive Sales

In the minds and hearts of many, Metal Gear Solid will always be a PlayStation franchise.

The legendary franchise began its life (not referring to the original Metal Gear back in the old days here) on the original PlayStation and various installments have enjoyed exclusive or timed exclusive releases on later Sony platforms.

Therefore, it stands to reason that most MGS fans are also PlayStation fans, and we're seeing that fact reflected in some early reports. According to Eurogamer, 72 percent of MGSV copies were sold on PS4, while only 22 percent were sold on Xbox One (3 percent on PS3 and 2 percent on Xbox 360). Furthermore, we're finding that MGSV is pushing PS4 sales in Japan. Of course, MGS has always been wildly popular in Japan (and the Xbox brand most certainly has not) but even so, it's a good sign for Sony followers.

There's no doubt that the latest Metal Gear Solid release is a big boon for PS4 sales, and it almost certainly won't have the same affect on Xbox One sales overall, so it doesn't act like your typical multiplatform game. No, it's more like PS4 has another exclusive, even if it's not really true. And that's great because PS4 doesn't have any other high-profile exclusives on tap for the holiday season.

Yes I knew this was going to happen, MS fanboys never cared much about MGSIV, they just hated the fact it was going to help the PS3 to gain momentum.

Has Sony just given up on first party FPS? GG is busy with their new game with no word of a KZ and Insomniac seems content to leave Resistance alone.

It somewhat seems like the competition has given up fighting CoD, Battlefield, and Halo. I suppose there's Destiny but that isn't your usual FPS as far as campaigns go.

But wasn't a huge share of the PS4 buyers first-time Playstation owners, according to official figures? Ergo not long time Playstation fans at all?

And Yet forza 6 is smashing Driveclub in a racer show of. 89 Vs 71 in overall reviews at the moment. And the game not out yet lol. Sony better get Grand trusmo out soon lol

Sony can keep Metal Gear Solid 5. Its not like they have any excluvies till next year. Not counting the remaster of Uncharted. FYI I own both systems so haterz thumbs down :)

How are you going to compare an established franchise like Forza vs. a new one like Driveclub? That doesn't mean anything.

Bring up the comparison when Gran Turismo 7 releases which is one of Sony's all time best selling franchises.

Drive Club is much improved now over how it was when it released.

So, I finally played, and finished MGS5:Ground Zeroes, in preparation for The Phantom Pain.

The game is beautiful, but... I find I played it like I played all the Splinter Cell games - in night vision mode.
So, as beautiful as the game is, I played 90% of it in black and white with some yellow heat signatures. =/

I'm not blaming the game. It's my fault. Sorry, just ranting...

I find using the night vision too much to be obnoxious. The grainy texture of the visuals makes me want to turn it off. I tend to use it sparingly.

And I not 100% sure but I think in GZ's there was no limit to how long you could keep the night vision on. In TPP the battery will drain over extended use.

I do the same thing as Jawknee. I only use when I want to find those hidden enemies(like snipers).

I also find myself ding a better job when I play at night time (in the game) and that may be due to the fact it's easier to slip past enemies.

Haha, I started doing missions in the day since the enemies are now equipped with night vision. Though I suppose I could just use the sneaking suites now at night since they hide you from night vision.

How far are you btw? I just completed my first mission in Africa.

Yeah, in GZ, you can use the night vision the entire time. I'm kind of glad that there is a 'battery drain' in TPP, so I won't use it all the time.

I just finished rescuing a famous scientist (don't want to spoil it) that basically couldn't walk. I told you that you would have surpassed me despite the fact I had the game 4 days prior to release date.

In regard to the aforementioned mission, I didn't get caught by the enemy once but after rescuing him how is Miller going to call a helicopter right in front of the base? I had to kill nearby enemies because the helicopter kept getting shot down.... On top of that running from the big thing that chases you was another big hurdle... ugh. I've been getting mostly Bs in my missions. How about you?

Oh man that mission is awesome.

I'm getting B's too. A few A's and one S.

I've found the best way to play is sneak for the main missions and go Rambo if you want during the side ops.

You are absolutely right because I've found that there are rarely any elite soldiers (apart from the one you're rescuing) in side ops.

Man, I love the airstrikes - Makes me feel good inside lol. Do you find yourself using DD more than D-horse? DD was annoying at first following me everywhere. I thought he would me caught but he must have stealth camouflage that the enemies don't see him lol. I cannot wait to try out that sniper on my side.

Oh DD for sure. It was annoying at first only cause transportation was an issue but not anymore since I've upgraded the Fulton.

the buddy system is done amazingly well. Makes me wonder what could have been had Naughty Dog not scrapped their companion idea for The Last of Us.

This is why Sony should(if at all possible) acquire the metal gear franchise. They can fund kojima Pro and continue to expand this universe.

I was really hoping to see Metal Gear 1 & 2 remade and maybe an installment about Raiden rescuing Sunny from the Patriots.

I have a question regarding the ability to transfer your GZ save to TPP. What exactly are you transferring over? Do you get anything special?

Yes. You get some good stuff. Without spoiling too much I'll just say some of it is important for your team and mother base. The rest is skins which are still very cool.

Make sure you finish all the missions if you haven't. And extract targets and prisoners often.

Thanks, Jawknee!
Which side missions in particular are good? I rescued the 5 extra hostages and was working on collecting all the XOF badges, but didn't get them all yet.
Are there missions that give me the best extras for TPP? :)

I can only l tell you my least favorite of them all was the one where you fly around and shoot targets from the helicopter. But you end up rescuing a very important character in that mission so be sure to complete that one for sure. All the rest are fun. There's really something to be gained from all of them. If you have any questions about details feel free to shoot me a message on PSN so we can keep it spoiler free for other PSX readers.
