DICE Brings Mirror's Edge 2 To Next-Gen Consoles "When It's Ready"

Woo-hoo!

EA has revealed the long-awaited follow-up to 2008's Mirror's Edge; the new first-person free-running game is in development at DICE and will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Protagonist Faith will return and fans just can't wait to play her new adventure. EA has said many times in the past that they wouldn't abandon this IP, and we're very glad they didn't. We've stated over and over that the original consisted of a fantastic foundation for the future, but just remember that they're still in the "early stages of development." Said senior producer Sara Jansson:

"The stake is in the ground, this new game will be a first-person action adventure starring Faith and I am here to tell you that we will stay true to Mirrorís Edge.

As we embark on this new adventure, I ask that you be patient as we explore the best way to make Faithís return as memorable and impactful as the original game. We are still in early stages of development and we donít want to rush anything. We want to make sure we create an experience that lives up to high expectations and fully takes advantage of the next generation of systems."

At the end of the debut trailer, it says we can expect this new title "when it's ready." Simple enough. We're just overjoyed that it's coming!

I think Mirror's Edge is a game that has grown in stature since its release. The first one may not have topped the charts for sales, but it left a very positive legacy. The second may really put in a strong showing for sales.

Pity it's not really for me. I got motion sick with the first. Pity. But it was an innovative title, and I hope the sequel does well.

I liked it but didn't love it, so much potential unrealized that I'm glad it's getting another game. That first one was a Remember Me sort of debut.

Geoff Keighly on Twitter got word from EA that ME is not ME2, but rather it's an Origin Story.

Since she was getting her tattoos it looks like a prequel. Am I the only one tired of reboots right away?

True enough. BUT that aspect of the trailer was a lead in to introduce to us that Mirrors Edge was coming back. A bit dramatic to appease fans. I won't take it that its a prequel UNTIL they tell us more ... whens it done in their words.

Either way its good to know they are bringing to gamers, hopefully bigger and badder, but staying to true to the key elements that made the original special.

Keep Playing!

I guess I shouldn't complain about a new ME at all, I'm just not big on prequels of any kind.

As great as this news is, I just hope "when it's ready" doesn't equate to "when Final Fantasy Versus XIII/The Last Guardian/Agent and Beyond Good & Evil 2 are ready".

Still, great news!

This was great news to see. Mirror's Edge is probably one of my favorite games of this gen. Next generation, especially with the news that the PS4 is the cheapest of the two consoles this generation
