Battlefield 4 Boasts 64-Player Multiplayer

For shooter fanatics, this is truly excellent news.

At E3 2013 today, developer DICE confirmed that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions of their upcoming Battlefield 4 will boast 64-player multiplayer matches.

They showed off the multiplayer level Siege of Shanghai during the presentation, which was a boisterous display of helicopters, jet skis and a huge skyscraper that didn't last very long. Commander Mode was shown running on a tablet, as the Commander player called down an artillery strike, which was kinda cool. If you're wondering, the PS3 and 360 versions of Battlefield 3 had a multiplayer cap of 32, so this is double the fun. It isn't the first time we've seen this, though; Resistance 2 offered crazy 64-player entertainment, too.

It was also confirmed that the Xbox One iteration of BF4 will run at 60 frames per second (we can only hope the PS4 version will do the same). However, Microsoft has secured early downloadable content exclusivity for the game, which probably shouldn't surprise anyone.

Um, no need to hope this coming gen. The PS4's got higher bandwidth and more and faster free memory, and better tools/simpler architecture this time around. If the game runs at 60hz on the xbone, it'll run at 60hz on ps4, but with better textures and added effects.

Ummm...no. The PS3 had a game with 256-player games.

And tons with 32-player games.

Plus, you know, MMORPGs.

frankly i would want the player count as of right now. more players isnt realy a selling point for me especially in battlefield games. i think its more of how games are set up. most of the games i play, i can barely fly a chopper because theres tons of people with stingers plus other choppers. thanks for taking out second flares. flying in armored kill maps are pointless with an attack helo with one flare. not only will infantry shoot you down but theres 2 other helos, an anti air tank, and an anti air mobile atilery. couple that by the fact that below radar barely works now its just a pain.

also air superiority would have been great with less players but with a full player count, you are constantly locked on with that beeping noise. so ahuge player count might sound good but it just depends whether it works.

I caught part of the announcement for this, did MS pay for the game itself to be released on xbox one before ps4 or just the dlc?

The gameplay trailer they showed did look pretty intense, looking worthy of another one to add to the ever-growing list!

In more insane news, who's hyped about the new Star Wars Battlefront being announced?! FINALLY! And Dice look to be working on that aswell :D
