Minecraft: Story Mode Lands Launch Date

Telltale Games can give anything a great storyline.

And that includes the runaway block-building hit Minecraft. The new Story Mode from the makers of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead has now been dated: The first episode will release digitally on October 13 and the physical release will follow on October 27.

Minecraft: Story Mode's first chapter is called "The Order of the Stone" and there will be five episodes overall. You can snag them individually or pick up the Season Pass; the retail version will only feature the first episode on disc, and the other four will come to you digitally. We don't have prices yet.

If you haven't heard, here's the plot description, courtesy of Telltale:

"You'll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse's friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and you must set out on a quest to find The Order of the Stone if you are to save your world from oblivion."

Telltale also wants to make sure this game feels totally authentic, so they've been working with original Minecraft developer Mojang. Always a good idea. The Story Mode will be available on all major platforms, including Wii U, which means this is the very first time any Minecraft title graces a Nintendo platform. It's also coming to Vita at some point, but not in October.

TellTale sure is busy for not having a lot of writers. I wouldn't mind helping out...

I plan to buy this immediately, due to the quality of their last several titles, but I admit that I am the least excited about project than anything else Telltale has done in a while. And I wish it were just the source material giving me this dim view.
