Former CD Projekt Red Members Open New Game Studio

Now that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out the door, two CD Projekt Red members think it's time to try something new.

That's why Chris Hardwick (Senior Engineer for The Witcher 3) and Dan Cordell (Environment Artist for The Witcher 3) have opened up Wickerman Games, where the duo aims to "make games we want to play that nobody seems to be making."

Those who love D&D will appreciate this part of the news release:

"We are both fans of pen and paper role-playing games such as Traveller, World of Darkness, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, and the venerable Dungeons & Dragons, and wish to marry our love of these games with our passion for creating video games."

Wickerman intends to show you every step of the development process, regardless of what they finally decide to make. They will give us a "front row seat" and let us see how things are progressing on a weekly basis. Well, CD Projekt Red certainly wasn't shy about showing off various stages of production for Wild Hunt but obviously, Hardwick and Cordell are going even beyond that.

And no, they're not currently hiring, but you're welcome to send in an application.

Wonder if they'll try making games with that kind of tabletop rpg mechanics. Personally I think it's a testament to how good many of those games were that I forced myself to keep going despite how much I hated the that aspect, but I understand a lot of people loved and miss them.

I guess I mean specifically the games trying to mimic D&D. The turn-based combat trying to pretend it's realtime but just ends up a twitchy clusterfuck. Having the ability to multiclass but having to cripple your character for a long time to do it. The rules that you have to have read in advance to have any idea what you're doing in the game. Vancian magic (god I hate vancian magic). The ruleset wasn't made with a video game in mind and it shows. Games like DA Origins or Pillars of Eternity that made their mechanics for a video game from the ground up do things much more smoothly.

okay yeah we have the same idea. I'm reviewing one of those now, the new Disgaia coming out later this month.
