New MGO Gameplay Demo Offers A Ton Of Great Details

It's just about everything you wanted to know about MGO, all wrapped up in an awesome new play demo.

Konami has issued a lengthy gameplay demo for Metal Gear Online, the anticipated multiplayer component in the critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The video details MGO's three distinct player classes: Scout, Enforcer and Infiltrator. We also get a peek at mission types, strategies and various player abilities. As for control, the multiplayer action uses the same mechanic as MGSV and we have access to a lot of the same equipment and techniques. Then there's the possibility of creating an entirely new MGO character from scratch, if you wish.

As for the classes, the Infiltrators are experts at close-quarters combat and are most effective when concealed by stealth camouflage. The Scout is a well-balanced soldier, who specializes in gathering intel and sniper rifles. The Enforcers are "classic deathmatch soldiers;" they're heavily equipped and they pack a mean punch. Finally, for a bunch of new screenshots, click here.

The Metal Gear Online servers will be up on October 6. Will you be participating?

"Will you be participating?"

Absolutely! MGO that came with MGS4 was fantastic. This looks even better.

Me too. Hopefully they leave it up longer this time. Pissed me off when they took down shortly after releasing the DLC. I also has just purchased an extra character slot. Kinda of a jerk thing to do on Konami's part.

OT:(sorta) I guess one of the main overseers for the Fox Engine used to make MGS5 just quit Konami. Rumor is he doesn't like the turn the company is taking. Such a shame this franchise has to die with the a$$hats that are more interested in cell phone games and slot machines.

Maybe this will be a deserved break for me after doing variations on the same sort of missions in the same sort of place commonly found in the main campaign.

yep even though some reviewers have mentioned that you basically do the same missions over and over Im surprised that it didnt cause alot of scores to be lowered.

I can't say for certain being only on Mission 8. But I do feel it's pacing itself slow, as if the prior 7 missions could've been done as 3-4 missions.
Still one heck of a game though.

It gets better. Yes many of the missions are similar but the game gets progressively more difficult as enemies learn and adapt to your play style. Not to mention mother base activities, the FOB's and your basic management an item crafting becomes progressively deeper. In addition the FOB's online component opens up about 30% of way through the game. I haven't dived directly in yet but so far it looks like it's going to be a pretty fun addition to the main game.

So far I'm on main mission 25. Only 45% complete. Already pushing 140 hours. Lol

I was disgruntled about the micro transactions but I'm tempted to drop $10 on some coins just so I can open another FOB.

Thanks Jawknee, yea, mission 8 was awesome.
It took some thinking to take out those two tanks. I stole an armored vehicle to shoot down one in the rear. Then I snuck deep into a well guarded encampment and planted C4 on the back side of the other tank. Blew it up.
I then went to the perimeter of the same base and sniped off the commander from afar. It was tactical action it's finest.

Nice! Yea this game is beyond what I expected in my opinion. The pacing of the story could be better but I think this is one of those games where it's all about the addicting gameplay. I haven't been able to put it down. Haha even replaying old missions, to get a better rank or even extract targets I may have offed in previous runs.

I think though for me its when you into chapter 2 and they just make you replay missions on a higher difficulty and then just get a story progression cutscene for the hell of it. At that point it kinda seemed like the game needed to have more.

Meh, it could use more cutscenes but imo the story is fine. It just might seem like the pacing is bad if you spend too much time on side ops in between main missions. How you play depends on how fast the story progresses.

Personally my biggest gripe about the game is Troy Baker. He sounds too much like himself to play Ocelot. Dude was good in The Last of Us but after hearing his performances in more games since then, he doesn't have enough range.

Wow. That really was an informative video. The best games take an easy and simple mechanic and allow the player to add the extra depth.

I remember the online for Portable Ops on the PSP. It was amazing how good some players were at that for a slightly unknown PSP game.
