Naughty Dog Needed More Time To Nail The Uncharted 4 Climax

Many PlayStation lovers were disappointed when Naughty Dog announced the delay for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

It meant that arguably the most anticipated PS4 exclusive of the new generation wouldn't arrive in 2015. But the developers really wanted to get this right (and rightly so, given the lofty expectations).

To be more specific, they pushed the game back in order to nail down the ending. Co-director Neil Druckmann recently told OPM (as cited by GamesRadar) that "it was a very hard decision" but they've got something awfully special in mind for the final scene. Don't forget that this is supposed to be Nathan Drake's final adventure. Said Druckmann:

"Even when I'm describing the ending, it's a pretty... Well, I guess this is a little bit of a spoil... Nah, I'm not going to say it! But there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do. And again, we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline.

It was going to disappoint [fans] to push this thing back. But this is the last chapter for Nathan Drake, so let's give ourselves as much time as possible and go all-out for this series."

Absolutely. We expect nothing less! Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is now slated to launch on March 18, but you actually don't have to wait that long to play it. If you pick up Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in October, you'll nab a code that lets you participate in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta. That's set for December, by the way.

And don't forget about those awesome special editions!

I don't get disappointed, angry or upset when games get delayed (or in Tomb Raider's case time exclusive) because there's always other games to play.

When Uncharted 2 was released I believe Demon's Souls released around the same time and guess which one I played? Demons Souls.

I think it's going to happen again when Dark Souls 3 gets released...sorry...

God, I wish MGSV ending got this much love because it's clearly incomplete. Thank you Naughty Dog for making sure a story driven game with history gets the proper send off fans will love.

It's Nates last adventure. They needed more time to do the ending justice. But still think releasing single player dlc is a good idea despite all of that information.

I love ND. I believe the dlc will be fantastic. But why release more story centered gameplay when the game itself should be conclusive? It's just not the best decision.

I'm still betting on a story for Sam. How he got to where he is and what happened between him and his brother. So yes, there is more story to tell. They pulled if off in the last of us, I thought the game was great as it was but I was wrong. The left behind dlc was great as well.

Uncharted isn't about Sam. So I disagree that there is more story to tell.

The reason it worked well in TLOU is because we knew nothing about Ellie until she popped up in the story. There were questions about her recent past.

We've gotten those answers about Nate long ago. If they have more story to tell about Nate, this shouldn't be his last adventure. Sorry it's the hard truth. This single player dlc for this game is a s*** show. This is my favorite franchise, so it's not easy to say. But they've never needed it, so why now?

If it's truly the end of Uncharted the ending is crucial but not really necessary. The journey to that ending is what really matters.
