Far Cry Primal Roars Into Existence, Will Launch In February

A few days ago, Ubisoft teased a new game announcement and sources said it was a new Far Cry.

Yep, that's what it is: The publisher has officially revealed Far Cry Primal, which will be set in the "savage Stone Age." This is slightly different than the reported Ice Age setting.

The new effort is described as a "full-fledged single-player experience" (always good to hear) and the year is 10,000 BC when massive beasts like the woolly mammoth and sabertooth tiger roam the untamed landscape. Players will assume the role of Takkar, a hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group. Additionally, we'll get a "cast of memorable characters," so we're looking forward to an engaging narrative.

Players will also have the opportunity to craft tools and weapons based on what they can find and in the announcement trailer, you'll see the hunter take down a woolly mammoth with spears and arrows. Said Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot:

"Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless, and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain. That came with conflict, against other humans of course, but also against nature itself."

Far Cry Primal is set to launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016; it'll release on PC in March. That could pose a problem, though, as both Mirror's Edge: Catalyst and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided also hit store shelves on the 23rd of February.

Hope you've got some time on your hands this winter!

Far Cry 4 exceeded the sales expectations due part in large to Far Cry 3 and for those who played both know that FC3 was better.

The survival aspect of fighting prehistoric beasts with older weapons sounds good but this is Far Cry: Primal and not Far Cry 5 so I'll keep my money.

Hmm, not sure how good this will be without guns, sure you'll get bows and other ranged items, but it just seems like the gameplay might be a bit... dull.

I guess time will tell, sounds like an interesting idea though. I do however expect this to be a reskin of FC3 or 4, and I can't say I'll enjoy shelling out full price for the game and the inevitable DLC that comes out for it. Lets not even bring up Uplay... I guess an advantage for you PS folks.
