NIS Explains Why Disgaea 5 Will Totally Own Your Life

Okay, strategy/RPG fans, it's your time to shine: Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is now available exclusively for PlayStation 4!

And as it's an absolutely giant game, you'll probably spend a lot of time with it. Like, a lot of time.

As evidence, check out the reasons why publisher NIS America claims Disgea 5 will be your "Most Played Game This Year." They've listed out five compelling reasons over at the PlayStation Blog.

Fans of the series won't be surprised by what they see. There will be a ridiculous amount of "serious strategy," as seen in reason #1 and as an example of the game's depth, NIS says:

"Think you have a mind for tactics and strategy? See how you do on a stage full of geo panels, with 50 enemies against your team of 10 unlikely heroes. This game takes time to master, but when you do, you’ll feel like a god… or an Overlord, as it were."

Then they say there are literally "millions of levels" and they're referring to levels for your characters and items. Don't forget that you can continue to increase the levels of both your party members and your equipment, and the max level cap is 9,999. Yeah, freakin' 9,999. Oh, and this is undoubtedly the longest Disgaea adventure ever, as it boasts a 40+ hour storyline, the Prinny Research Squad, the ability to visit your friends' Netherworld and more. It's just insane.

We can even expect downloadable content...as if this game needed to get any bigger. Well, you up for it?

I spent 500+ hours on D1, 140+ on D2(it was the worst in the series), 200+ on D3, 400+ on D4, 300+ and counting on D-D2.

Yea, my body is ready.

In your opinion D2 was the worst. I thought it was great - and Adell is a beast. About the only thing I can concede is that Axel is pretty much terrible and terribly annoying.

I can't wait to pour into it. But... it will have to sit on my shelf until MGSV is done. Disgaea tends to be a time-consumer for me, so I need to get the most out of the MGS experience before I get too far into D5.
