The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone: A Few Lingering Concerns

It vies with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as my favorite game of 2015 so far, despite the fact that it launched with all sorts of problems (which I couldn't ignore in my review).

However, with the first expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt landing today, as excited as I am, I have a few lingering concerns.

First, given the instability of the game in question, I worry that Hearts of Stone will come with its own fresh set of glaring issues. I know CD Projekt Red has prepared a massive patch but it only reminds me just how many fixes this game has required since its May launch. I know the expansion isn't a full game but if it really is 10 hours, there will be plenty of opportunities to screw up.

Secondly, I wonder how much stronger I'll get. I finished the game at Lv. 37 and like many diligent players, I discovered that any quest that had a recommended level of 6 or more below my current level wouldn't give me any experience. Now, they say the missions in Hearts of Stone are designed for Lv. 30+ characters. Well, great, but I still won't get experience for a Lv. 30 or 31 mission because I'm Lv. 37. That's really gonna bug me.

Thirdly and lastly, I know I'm going to run into the conundrum of ditching my full set of Mastercrafted Wolven Armor. I'm almost guaranteed to find better weapons and equipment in this expansion, aren't I? But the bonuses given by a complete set of Mastercrafted armor and blades is awfully attractive, from both a functional and aesthetic viewpoint. It'll really tick me off if one particularly great item forces me to break that up. Perhaps we could have another set for higher-level players...?

Your concerns are well founded. You would not believe the number of missions that I did and I was only compensated with 5 experience points. I did enjoy the story and dialogue but as Geralt would say... "I don't work for free"

I'm almost level 40,so that would mean that i don't get much experience points...or maybe they did disable this for the expansions,i mean there are people level 30/level 35 /level 40 otherwise it would suck big time for the higher level players...i will wait till the last expansion is out and then i will play them both about march 2016 after Fallout 4,who knows maybe they will change this with a patch...

How the hell did you get to Lv. 40? I've killed everything there is to kill and finished every last mission (with the exception of a couple busted ones), and I just barely made Lv. 37.

I did read somewhere of a person who said he/she was level 41....
In my case ;i did all the missions/side missions but i did almost all the question marks[ofcourse except the ones needed in the missions] AFTER my last mission,so little by little i got exp,but because there where so many question marks[with points for bandits/monsters/ and when clearing an certain area from monsters/bandits you get much points,i did these all after my last mission] i did make it to level 39 [and 1200/2000 points ],maybe that if you do the monsters/bandits[question marks] between the missions you loose certain missions because you got to many points early on,don't know how much this wil make a difference in the end....

Also everytime i did try to play many side missions before a main mission[within the difference of 5/6 levels] as much that i could[ because for the main missions you get very much points]

I don't know...most of those question marks are just caches that don't get you any experience, while others are just mid-level monsters. I killed that Arch Griffin at the top of an island in Skellige, which was the highest-level creature I saw (Lv. 42) and I didn't get much experience at all.

I guess it just matters what order you do things in.
