PlayRoom PS4 Tech Demo: A Living Room Springs To Life

Remember the EyePet? Well, this is kinda like a really advanced version of that on the PlayStation 4.

Sony's PlayRoom will allow you to interact with your TV and living room in a way you've never seen before. It's a little creepy but at the same time...kinda cool.

Here's a tech demo for the aforementioned "game" (is it really a video game?) and it shows one person and then two people playing around with a slick, futuristic virtual presentation. Toward the end, they fill the floor with these cute, friendly little martians, and it shows how you can draw something on the Dual Shock 4's touchpad and then immediately bring it to life. Just remember that you would need the PlayStation Eye for this, and that's an additional $60 as it won't come packaged with the PS4.

I'm not that into this kind of stuff, but that's probably just 'cuz I'm old-school. The new generation will probably love it.

I like the idea, but would like it more if it were less gimmicky. Say, if they could find a way to integrate a similar feature into an actual game, instead of this plaything. I'm not creative enough to think of an example, but I could see how it would be a really awesome feature, if properly implemented.

I know, they could have whack-a-mole at home be a game.

That's the trouble with this stuff, it's highly limited in what it can do, but hey kids love stuff like this and we want our kids to have positive gaming experiences (not that I have kids but still)

Haha world - just had an amusing image pop into my head at that:
Mum: why did you break the teapot?
Kids: the playstation said a mole was in it

I just... don't get it. I feel like Tom Hanks in Big, where he is wondering why kids would want to play with a skyscraper. What is fun about that? I'm all for new gaming ideas/tech, but what is fun about what they are doing?
