Naughty Dog Talks Uncharted 4 And "The End Of An Era"
Yes, sadly, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will indeed be Nathan Drake's final adventure.
And now, developer Naughty Dog talks about how difficult it will be to leave such a landmark franchise behind.
Co-director Neil Druckmann told Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar) that despite being very busy, there are moments when the reality of the end hits home:
"We get more and more that feeling of this definitely [being] the end of an era for us as a studio. We've been with this franchise for almost ten years now from inception all the way to this point. Luckily, we don't get too much time to dwell on that feeling because we're so busy, but every once in a while... you know?"
Additionally, Druckmann said that after lead writer Amy Hennig left the studio, the story had to be changed significantly. Druckmann and Bruce Straley were brought on co-direct and not long afterward, they created a new direction to the project:
"I remember when Bruce and I came onto the project. A few weeks later we pitched a pretty new story to the team, kind of like a new direction for the project. A lot of things were pretty rough and just slotted in, so there was an ending but it wasn't as well defined, and at some point we defined more of the [plot] thread and a more definitive ending, and we did a second pitch for the team."
Nathan Drake actor Nolan North previously said Hennig's departure set the game back 8 months, which is probably why we didn't get the anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive this year. It's now set to arrive on March 18, 2016.
Yes, it will be hard to envision Uncharted without Drake. One Naughty Dog writer definitely agrees with that sentiment.
