Original Nier Director Says Platinum Is "Doing A Great Job"

Last week, we wondered if developer Platinum Games was really a good fit for the Nier sequel.

Well, some people aren't worried. This includes the original game's director Taro Yoko, who is collaborating with Platinum and Square Enix on the new project.

As cited by DualShockers, Platinum boss Hideki Kamiya and Yoko traded some Tweets; Kamiya first said:

"We’ll do our best to meet Yoko-san’s expectations."

After which, Yoko replied:

"Platinum is doing such a great job, that I feel like I’m not necessary. ...although in this industry we not longer use the term 'subcontractor' very often, it’s true that there are a lot of companies working with this philosophy of 'we just need to do what we’ve been told.' But Platinum is honestly a great company. It’s like when you order a regular set at Ten-ichi [a restaurant] and they give you free fried chicken and rice, as well as an extra cup of Kotteri [Ramen soup]."

Well, that's good to hear. There's no doubt that Platinum is indeed a great developer, which we never once doubted. The only question is whether or not they can retain the role-playing core of the original. But if you could've picked any developer in the world to do this sequel, what studio would you have selected?

From software, with Miyazaki at the helm if I had to choose any developer.

But honestly I think platinum will do a good job. Even if there are no RPG elements, I said it before as long as the gameplay is varied like the original and the story and characters are compelling I am down.

I think it will be a much better collabration than what lead to the results of Metal Gear Rising. If Yoko is supervising and involved with the games narrative I'm sure it will live up to fans of the original games expectations. NeiR's world and and engrossing characters were at the heart of the game. Alot of the JRPG elements were a little sloppy - I love the game, I really do, but the implementation of the siedquests were abysmal.

I get the impression it will be shown off at this French event Sony is hosting and I simply cannot wait. I still can't believe NieR is havign the chance to continue, I never thought it would happen.

I'd only be afraid of this being a case where, once again, a Japanese dev type person sees amazing graphics and rapid action and just gets impressed.

That's how J games went downhill.
