Watch Dogs Multiplayer Might Be Familiar To Dark Souls Fans

How we play with others will continue to evolve in the new generation and beyond.

Ubisoft has finally provided baseline details of the multiplayer component in Watch Dogs, the hotly anticipated, futuristic open-world game set for later this year.

Those of you who are familiar with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls will sort of understand what the developers are doing here: Essentially, multiplayer isn't a separate mode in the game; in fact, players will be trying to plant viruses on the phones of other players. When you're getting hacked, a percentage bar appears on the screen and you must track down the attacker before the bug is successfully in place. If you're wondering, all players will see themselves as protagonist Aiden Pearce on the screen, while the person they're attacking/chasing will look like a generic NPC.

Ubisoft didn't really go into specifics concerning successful hacks, and how that benefits you. But they did say that the more you plant viruses, the more susceptible you are to being hacked. You can also watch other players and help them out, if you so choose. If you'd rather not participate in this optional multiplayer stuff, you can opt out, although you will be hacked once as part of the campaign. Oh, and the multiplayer mode is turned off automatically when embarking on a story mission.

Watch Dogs is set to launch on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on November 19. The next-gen iterations for the PS4 and Xbox One might release at about the same time, depending on when the new systems hit store shelves. We're assuming mid-November.

But I don't want to be hacked.....

Unless it's World or Banky A., but I'll probably have traded it in before they get the game out of the bargain bin.
