EA: Battlefront Can Attract Younger And Returning Gamers
After the Star Wars: Battlefront beta ended, many gamers noted how accessible it was. In other words, the casual crowd should enjoy it.
And Electronic Arts isn't really shying away from that fact. In the company's latest earnings report (as cited by GameSpot), EA CEO Andrew Wilson said Battlefront's demographic will include both younger consumers and gamers who maybe haven't played in a while:
"Anecdotally, what we have seen is that Star Wars Battlefront is bringing in two groups that are very important groups to us. One are gamers that have lapsed, traditionally who have been big gamers in the past and maybe haven't played for a while, and [Battlefront's beta has] certainly been a catalyst for those people to come back into the gaming universe as it relates to console. And two, onboarding a new younger age demographic."
Wilson was also asked if there's an audience overlap between the upcoming Battlefront and the long-running Battlefield series and while he says there's "absolutely a crossover," he expects to get new fans. He added that the upcoming "Star Wars"-themed game - which is rated "T" for Teen, by the way - is also more appropriate for younger gamers as opposed to other shooters on the market. Obviously, he's referring to Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which launches later this week.
Star Wars: Battlefront will release on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. How do you think it will fare in the marketplace?
