Destiny Microtransactions And Add-Ons Can "Co-Exist"

Don't think microtransactions and expansions can flourish within the Destiny community?

Well, Activision says you're wrong because in fact, both are already flourishing. During an earnings call, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said more is coming in the future because players demand "more great content."

"I think they're already co-existing. We had a full year of expansions to the game that have been very well received and sold quite well. More recently, you've seen us introduce smaller, in-game purchases that allow people to customize their experience and express themselves; those have been very well received and have sold well also. I think we've already shown that DLC and microtransactions can co-exist and that our community is hungry for more great content."

An analyst asked Hirshberg if the game's business model was changing to favor microtransactions over expansions but Hirshberg said he has nothing to announce at this time. So, does that mean yes...? At any rate, there's no doubt that both The Taken King and the new Silver microtransactions are awfully popular. It was just revealed that Silver - the in-game currency purchased with real-life money - is selling very well on the PlayStation Store.

Don't complain that such things exist because quite obviously, people want them.

The microtransactions has me scratching my head. Why people would pay good money for a character to act like they are swinging a baseball bat I'll never know.

As far as everything else is concerned people, like me are paying for it because there's a feeling of being stripped of something prior. To buy it means to ba able to play more. Unfortunately none of it is worth the investment. But when we are told that each dlc will add "X" amount of gameplay as a consumer we respond. But it never plays out like they have said. It's a strange structure, one I can't get behind anymore.

I understand how you feel... and honestly? I feel bad for buying the zombie dance emote. :s

But, here is my take on it:

Why do people pay for extra cheese on a burger?
Why do people shell out a bit of moola for extra mayonnaise?

Beats me... but, again, honestly? I did both of the above as well.

Is it a sickness? Is it an exploit? Is it a choice that I should be condemned of, even if I knew full well that I shouldn't have payed for it? Do I contribute to growing opportunity for Bungie to do exploitive, money extorting marketing acts that will ultimately lead to the downfall of the game?

I do not know, really...*summons all zombies to get down*

I pay for extra cheese cus it makes my burger experience better. The emotes I'm not sure how they add anything to the experience, at least anything that's worth money.

I don't get it but your anologies helped me get over it... ;)

I thought this game was revolutionary in that it would be a huge mmorpg game that would be updated and explored in a span of 10 years, but it's turning out nothing more than a mega experiment to see how far they can push people with add ons and micro transaction. I mean season pass + micro transaction + expansion + add ons... It looks like a success so far. and perhaps the future.

Glad somebody else sees it. We are beta testers and we are taking the bait. This is a brilliant marketing strategy for them, but it's not one I can support.
