Avalanche: No Multiplayer For Mad Max

As we always say, some games don't need multiplayer. In fact, some of the best games in recent memory didn't boast a multiplayer component.

As an example for the future, Eidos Montreal's Thief will be single-player-only, as the developer has said they're focusing entirely on delivering a memorable campaign. Gotta respect that, especially 'cuz it's Thief. Now, another game maker is saying basically the same thing.

It's Avalanche Studios, who told GameSpot that their upcoming Mad Max game will not boast any multiplayer. Said creative director Frank Rooke:

"There's no multiplayer at the time. It's a very strong single-player experience and of course Max is a loner and we're really focusing on that aspect of Max."

We didn't see any gameplay during the E3 unveiling trailer, but we know it's a third-person action/adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world. There's even some car combat, as we understand it. In that way, the game's description sorta reminds us of RAGE, only with probably a lot more freedom. And for all you young'uns who aren't aware, the game is based on the old "Mad Max" movies with Mel Gibson.

The long-awaited game is in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and it'll be ready to go some time in 2014.

Nothing wrong with that. If you're a young adult that works and/or goes to school full time then you don't have much time to play online with others.

If it has a very strong and focused story then that's okay (hell I don't plan to buy it anyway) but Mad Max sort screams multiplayer doesn't it?

This is good news, too bad it's a movie tie in so it will likely blow.

Probably nut maybe not. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was better than the movie that it was promoting. Plus, it is from the devs who gave us Just Cause 2 which is awesome, so I'm hopeful that they can do something interesting with it.

It's funny. I wasn't interested at all in this game. Until I just now found out that there's no planned multiplayer. Might have to keep this one on my radar.

YAY! no multiplayer ! hehehe! There aren't many sites you can openly exclaim that. I like playing online and all, but with out it you know the extra time is going straight to the gameplay mechanic and story mode.

Actually I would have liked multiplayer. It would've been cool to have a horde or beast like mode were one team would either defend or attack a fortification that has that "precious juice".

The modders will add Multiplayer. Avalanche are great. They make the games fun and timeless. I still play JC2 a lot. PLATINUMED IT AHHHHHHHHHHHH

That actually gives me hope for this game. I was going to keep an eye on it regardless, being a 'Mad Max' fan, but my expectations weren't high. If the developer isn't planning on adding a mode that the majority of developers are unnecessarily tacking on to their games, maybe they'll do right by us.

Alot of other games didn't need multiplayer but got it anyway, I'm looking at you God of War and Uncharted.

Glad to see Mad Max will be single player, now let's hope it doesn't suck.

And I sure hope the PS4 has some single player great games at some point. I'm a little worried with all this share stuff and social things attached to every game.

Sorry not a big Multi-player type Gamer, I always get disappointed when I go on-line.

No multiplayer Thunderdome or running siege together with my friends using post apocalyptic motorcycles? Can't say that's a good thing....
