PS4 Slaughtering Xbox One In Amazon Facebook Fan Vote

Oh, that's close.

Amazon has decided to hold a Facebook vote where gamers can select their horse of choice for the next generation. One would assume that even after Sony sorta wiped the floor with Microsoft at E3, there has to be some dedicated Xbox lovers.

Well, there are, but there appear to be a lot fewer than there used to be. At the time of this writing, the PS4 is beating the Xbox One...by a ridiculous count of 25,026 to 1,408. I mean, that's just sad. By the way, the launch-guaranteed PS4 has long since been sold out at Amazon and it remains the online retailer's top-selling game product. For the record, the regular edition is identical to the launch version; they just can't guarantee delivery on day one if you didn't get the launch edition.

The only problem is that Microsoft still has the majority of casual gamers, who probably don't even know about E3 and barely even acknowledge PlayStation's existence. It's all about the Xbox in the US for the casuals, unfortunately, so don't think the actual sales numbers will reflect this vote. Which, of course, only the hardcore are likely to participate in.

My brother was talking on facebook today about how he likes to use tv streaming services and might go with the Xbone. As soon as I told him about the 24 hour check in he was already against it even though his internet is fine.

People don't like things like that, it feels like a nanny device that automatically treats you like a criminal.

No kidding, I didn't move out of my mother's house so MS could babysit me.

That's what my wife is for.

Given how vocal all of this is, I believe word will reach the casual market. Plus they're not going to pay that price.

I'm noticing both in the U.S. and in Canada among my friends and friends of friends an overall dislike of the XBOne. There's an immediate guttural response against the device, not only for its nanny features and DRM, but also based on a cultivated distaste.

You need check only a few message boards, even on casual sites or FB pages to witness this general guttural distaste. And it's quite rampant.

I tend to agree with World on this. There may be a lot of people out there who aren't following the news closely and might go with the Xbone, but there are a lot of people who do know what's going on ready to school them. Once you outline the differences between the two systems and their treatment toward the consumer, then you'll find a receptive audience. I think that Microsoft's going to find that there are a lot fewer sheep than they had banked on.

I wouldn't dismiss the casual. Today in conversation my wife (non-gamer) brought up XB1 and PS4 and knew about all of the salient issues. If she knows, believe me, a whole hell of a big chunk of the population is aware!

All I can figure is articles are popping up EVERWHERE on the new consoles. I have no idea how else she would have been informed......

Surprising, my local news covered the X1 very favorable (Though I should note that was an NBC affiliate) and barely mentioned the PS4.

The articles I've seen in the mainstream press have all noted the new policies with the xbox one and have been clear to mention that the PS4 does not have these issues. Some articles have even been specifically about the backlash that the xbox one is facing.

Also, just to point out that Jon Stewart is technically off for the summer, John Oliver is filling in.

@World my local news station did the exact same thing they actually made a bunch of false statements an example being that the X1 is the first announced next generation console and generally acting like the PS4 does not exist.

I work with a dyed in the wool Xbox fan who has never owned a Playstation. He loves for multiplayer with Xbox live. I would've expected that if anybody I knew would by e Xbox One, it would be him.

I spoke to him last night and even HE is ditching Microsoft, while planning on switching to the PS4.

It's almost like Amazon is rubbing this in Microsoft's face. I like that.

I'm sure everyone who ordered the launch edition is aware of this, but I'll say it anyway. You can purchase Amazon gift cards on their site and apply them to your PS4 balance.

Surreal.

I think the general consumer also catches wind of this. It's simply too loud to not notice. It's everywhere - not only on hardcore gaming sites but really everywhere. If you are just the tiniest bit interested in the Xbox One or gaming in general, I mean just interested in a very light, casual way, surely this will catch your attention.

Add to this the fact that the PS4 will be *cheaper* too, and launched at the same time, and lots of consumers out there will do their little research and then discover the differences.

But speaking of that! Here in Norway Microsoft has now started taking preorders of the Xbone, and the price they put on the machine is *noteably* lower than expected. In fact, it's at the price the PS4 is expected to be found at (based on how pricing usually ends up here in comparison to the USA prices).

Might Microsoft publicly do a price drop even before it is launched?

Well, you can only vote once (which eliminates ballot box stuffing) but the real jaw-dropper is that it isn't even close!

Pre-orders, however, are not so easily rigged. And the PS4 is way out in front there.

That's funny. I can't believe the XBOne is doing so bad in all these polls. Maybe it's just PS4 fanboys going out and voting while the XBOne fans are avoiding it, but it seems the American crowd has really turned.

I wouldn't expect the casual crowd to stick with Xbox either. Even if they aren't following all the E3 stuff, when they see video game system A is $400 and video game system B is $500, a lot of them are going to simply go with the cheaper box. It'll be mostly the hard-core Xboxers that don't switch sides.

There was an article on The Motley Fool with the title "Microsoft Crushed Sony at E3"
What do you guys think? A thorough critical drubbing of the article suits me just fine.

Honestly, what was Microsoft thinking as they were developing this console? How they can turn over so many XBox fans over to Playstation? Or were they too busy with $$$ signs over their eyes to get back to reality?

Their thinking, originally, is that they weren't competing with Sony this rounds. They're competing with Apple and Google.

Supposedly they were indeed caught off guard by Sony's PS4 presentation in February (I don't know why, since almost everything presented had been leaked prior, some it LONG before) and have been scrambling to catch up. But they have a plan, as terrible and backward as it may seem to us, and they're sticking with it. All this chatter and bad press really doesn't mean anything right now, months before any units have been sold. It remains to be seen if/how this translates into sales, not just at launch, but in the long term.
