October NPD: PS4 Falls From The Top, Halo 5 Is #1 Game
Last month, we wondered if the PlayStation 4 price cut could keep PS4 ahead of Xbox One.
As it turns out, the answer is "no," at least for October 2015.
While Sony's console has routinely outsold Microsoft's system in the U.S. region, the latest NPD results for the month of October show a reversal: Xbox One is on top.
Well, PS4 dropped to $350, but Xbox One had Halo 5: Guardians, which was the #1 title for the month. Overall console sales dropped just a little when compared to October 2014; sales fell from $271.1 million to $270.3 million. However, this was the fault of portable sales falling 27 percent and as NPD analyst Liam Callahan clarified:
"This was due entirely to 8th generation console hardware sales, which rose by 12 percent to offset the 66 percent decrease in hardware sales for 7th generation consoles."
Unsurprisingly, a whopping 96 percent of hardware sales came in the form of bundles. As for software, overall sales were down 3 percent ($337.7 million, down from $349.4 million) and as stated above, Halo 5 led the way. Here's the top 10 list and note the platforms in parentheses; this shows the ranking of multiplatform sales. As you can see, PS4 leads in all of them with the exception of Rock Band 4.

- NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
