Sony Confirms PS2 Games Will Soon Be Available On PS4

Well, we don't know about "soon" but we do know backwards compatibility is in the works.

It all started when Digital Foundry spotted something odd about a newly released Star Wars: Battlefront PlayStation 4 bundle.

As it turns out, the package comes with four games, including PS2 titles Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars Racer: Revenge and Super Star Wars. These seemed to be the original games running in emulation, which prompted plenty of discussion. Then, Sony made the surprising confirmation to Wired:

"We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation ... We have nothing further to comment at this point in time."

Of course, this leaves a lot of questions unanswered but for the time being, everyone is buzzing about the prospect of PS2 classics on PS4. And the Sony XDev Europe Twitter account has asked the million-dollar question: Which PS2 games do you want to see on PS4?

Tekken 5 because the PS2 disc contained arcade versions of Tekken, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3. All the other games I could care for aside from Nightshade I already have available to me as a remaster on PS3.

I'd like to see more than just a handful of games that get the "approval". I really hope they implement it so that you can just insert the game and you're good to go. But this being Sony they'll probably make it so you have to buy the game yet again, because buying it once on the PS2 then again to play it on the PS3 when they started porting them, plus the re-masters just wasn't enough.

1.
If Sony's going to do it right, I say then they need to include the whole entire PS2 catalog, not just a few of their own picks here & there.

2.
Give all the games a full trophy support, not just a miserly 1/2 dozen or so trophies.

3.
I have 489 PS2 disc games(so far) & I want every single one of them to be playable, if & when I so chose to do so.

I still remember how M$ tried to BS'ed us when they crowed on & on about how their Bot-box 360 would play 85% of the original Xbox's games catalog.
Well, let me set it straight for the record.....I have 276 games I'm my original Xbox collection & I decided to put their claim to my own un-scientific test, by using all of my own personal game discs.
But after discovering that only 3 out of the 1st 100 games I tried, only 3 of them would actually boot up.
The other 97 had a frigging miserable(and much hated) pop-up window that stated the game wasn't 360 supported.
So I wound up throwing in the towel and gave up even trying the remaining 197 games.

So the way I look it now is that anything less than a 100% PS2 playable disc-catalog, then Sony's doing nothing more than emulating a Bot-box 360 in disguise.

I'd like to see the Syphon Filter franchise up-scaled.

Are you on whatever Trump is on to even think to demand Sony full trophy support for all games? I mean seriously dude. Trophy support is something the developer has to add not Sony. And that bit about 100% full emulation support. Not even the first PS3 which had an integrated PS2 could run all games.

No they don't. Sony mentioned the PS3 when it came to adding trophie, for past titles. So why would it apply now?

Hey World, just an FYI.....

You're into statues if I remember correctly, right?

If so, here's new Bioshock "Big Daddy" preorder for Spring 2016.......

http://store.irrationalgames.com/store/tk2irr/en_US/pd/productID.330712100?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Twitter%20post&utm_term=Big%20Daddy%20Statue&utm_content=Twitter%20IrrationalGames%20BigDaddyStatue&utm_campaign=Big%20Daddy%20Statue

Looks great, but it's freaking crazy-mad pricy too(a full weeks pay after taxes, a visit to the sperm bank, & a couple pints of blood should just about pay for it, LOL).

I'm just starting to be. I've got my Cole McGrath and a great Captain America. Thanks for the link I'll have a look.

Right now my Power Armor in Fallout 4 looks like a Big Daddy :)

Also, for all we know, Sony could very well be using the same strat as Microsoft where the developer has to re-compile the game to add support for PS4 emulation based on the fact that the videogames were downloaded from the store and had trophies.

And you point that out because...

The reason I said it is so that people don't get their hopes up that they'll be able to play off their PS2 discs.

Hang on to your PS2 consoles, atleast you will know for certain they will play every single PS2 game, even the obscure ones.

Not going to lie though, if this does happen i would quite enjoy playing through forgotten gems like Onimusha, Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, Primal, Forbidden Siren, The Bouncer etc, assuming these titles get the emulation treatment and without any glitches like PS2 games played on the launch PS3 console.

About damn time. PS1 and PS2 have been emulated to look much more beautiful for years, even on systems only a little stronger. The actual company should be able to achieve this. I think they may have found out that PSNow might not be the best place to park all older PS games.

I would have to agree with Temjin001 about Tekken 5 as the 3 other games would be nice! As for me, I want Samurai Shodown Anthology! ALL SIX GAMES IN ONE?!?!?! EPIC!!!!!! Oh, and Burnout: Revenge or Takedown! And last but not least, let's get some Onimusha back!

I want it to play on my system, not to have to buy it over again. I want all seven (eight?, Don't remember the discs are sitting) game discs to work like they did on the PS2, with carry over saves and all the gloriousness.

I really hope I can put in my PS2 discs one day. I have all Sony consoles still but it would be nice to not have to hook up them and take up space when I want to use them.

This is probably sadly more likely going to be for downloadable PS2 games, because Sony will want to be making money off of this.

I would hope it means actual full emulation, even if there are maybe a few stragglers that don't work well. And why no mention of PS1 games? Seriously, I still cannot find any justification for the PS4 to not be able to emulate PS1 games.

I'd have to say my own obvious answer would have to be "all games", hence that old, old, saying, "the more the merrier".
