Star Wars: Battlefront DLC Battle Of Jakku Brings A New Mode
Developer DICE has confirmed the details of the game's first expansion, The Battle of Jakku, which launches on December 1 for those who pre-ordered the game (everyone else gets it on December 8). Not only does this expansion deliver a new map, but it also brings a whole new mode: Turning Point.
Like the crowd-pleasing Walker Assault mode, Turning Point will support up to 40 players. The Rebels have to locate Empire bases and gain control of these installments; there are three bases to find and capture in all. Every time the Rebels capture a base, more time is added to the clock and the idea is to grab 'em all before time expires. If you can manage that, "the final stand will take place." Here's more info courtesy of lead level designer Dennis Brannvall:
"Let's say there's only 25% left of the claim process and the Empire has managed to drive away the Rebels. This means that the Empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map. The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be."
Airspeeders and AT-STs will be available in Turning Point and DICE says the latter vehicles will adopt a "slightly more defensive" role compared to Walker Assault. And while the battle will revolve mostly around the ground forces, air battles will still ensue:
"The battles are ever-present; debris will be falling from the skies, and you'll even see a Super Star Destroyer come crashing down during the round."
The Battle of Jakku is just the first of many planned pieces of new content. And for something a little different (and totally cool), check out this recently discovered Easter Egg found in Battlefront.
