PS4 Two-Year Anniversary: System Sales Pass 30 Million
Xbox One may have managed to top PlayStation 4 in October, but Sony's console still holds a big lead.
And PS4 has hit another milestone: Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) announced that PS4 has reached a sell-through number of 30.2 million worldwide. That statistic is as of November 22 and Sony says the system represents "the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history." This would mean it's even tracking ahead of the dominant of PS2, but don't forget the industry is a lot bigger these days. Said SCE President and Global CEO Andrew House:
"We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago. We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation."
Maybe unsurprisingly, Microsoft has been reluctant to share exact sales numbers for Xbox One this generation, often saying they don't matter as much now. ...a striking contrast to the sales numbers they stuffed down our throats when Xbox 360 was killing PS3 but whatever.
For the record, though, Xbox One appears to be somewhere around the 17 million mark.
