Nomura Mentions A Few Of His Favorite Games From E3

Square Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura introduced Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III during Sony's E3 press conference. But what games did he find impressive at the show?

During a Dengeki Online interview (as cited by DualShockers), Nomura talked about a few of his favorite titles.

He first mentioned Titanfall, Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4, because they all have "very strong personalities." He also likes the unique hacking mechanic in Watch Dogs and particularly the graphics in Titanfall and Battlefield 4. The last game he brought up was Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain:

"There’s also Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The graphics are beautiful — It’s a Metal Gear game, after all — and the expressions are amazing. It’s impressive that it’s made by a Japanese developer."

That last statement makes it plain that most Japanese designers don't expect to be in the same graphical league as their Western counterparts, and that's kinda depressing. And for those of you who are surprised that he mentioned so many shooters and action-oriented games, you must not be privy to the direction Final Fantasy has taken over the past generation or so. Who's up for Call of Duty Versus Final Fantasy?

All this guy wants is a COD to make billions. Goodbye my old fashioned Final Fantasy. We shall miss thee.

End of line.

Final Fantasy 15 looks better than MGS5 in my eyes. Because it has its own world. Its not based off of a desert region which anyone can see and recreate. Not saying MGS5 isnt pretty, but FF15 is its own world where everything is designed by the imagination. He shouldn't be so harsh on himself. Im just glad SE let him out of the basement to finally continue working on his games.

... But was there much else than action games at this years E3? To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with what I've seen when it comes to games.
Other than the titles we already knew about there wasn't any major releases that surprised me, a minor exception being The Division.

I was about to correct you, but then you mentioned The Division ;) So, in short, I agree.

Murdered: Soul Suspect, one of Square Enix's own games, looks like a great crime drama in the spirit of Shadow of Destiny. And even though we don't know a lot about it, Quantic Dream's The Dark Sorcerer certainly turned some heads.

The Order 1886 looked pretty good. Hopefully the game-play is as good or better than the game-play.

Hmm...I don't see how mentioning an action-orientated game automatically makes it that FPS's are the "Be-all, End-all".

Give the guy a break! Liking or appreciating something is not indicative of wanting to engage in it yourself :) (I should think....)

I dont think this means that his game are going to be more actiony than before.

My hope is that FF15 plays like an evolution of Kingdom Hearts 1. However if its combat is really actiony and twitchy but it still offers all the fun customization and exploration that old FF games are known for then I will be plenty happy.

If he gets rid of cities, side quests, loot, customization etc then I will just abandon any hope for the Final Fantasy series.

The only game that surprised me and really made me excited at E3 was Kingdom Hearts 3. I'm sure some others will gain my attention once more info comes out. But at least the ones we already knew about look pretty damn good. Totally want to get my hands on InFamous: Second Son and Watch Dogs! Already have Beyond: Two Souls preordered.

On a side note, now that Kingdom Hearts will be returning I wish FF could return to its true form as well....too bad most dreams never come true.

Nomura's excitement is a little scary. I hope he doesn't get inspired to continue SE's evil plan to conquer the west.

I think we need blindfolds for some Japanese developers, like SE when they attend gaming conferences. They should only be allowed to remove them during their own presentation.

It's weird to me that Japanese designers are so enamored with western shooters when the whole of the Japanese gaming public despises them.

Equating Final Fantasy XV to a Call of Duty is a very generous proposition for CoD. In that interview you're citing, Nomura says that he doesn't really play games outside of work. He is a movie fanatic, and, thus, is only really responding to what would be his "peers" (AAA, graphically intensive, and-with one arguable exception-not tied to a single platform) A little context instead of your predestined "bastardization of Final Fantasy" tripe would be appreciated.

the crew and the division were the best games.
murdered soul suspect looks cool, but im a bit worried about the gameplay and how tedious it will get.
will it be any fun to play?
its funny how the past few years ubisoft has been the only ones to actually have a half decent presser.
ok there was no BG&E2 but does that really surprise you?
the division really surprised me, and the crew looks really cool!
god i hate ubisoft!
they make it so difficult to hate them, and that just makes me hate them even more!
they treat PC like sh*t, they treat their customers like sh*t, they treat their developers like sh*t, look at michel ancels constant b*tching especially about rayman legends development, and the creator of ACs current lawsuit with them.
but then on the other hand, they really do make some kick a$$ games!
so ironic that ubisoft was the one to pick up the majority of THQs titles.
THQ was the only publisher that never put out a bad game.
very ironic now, because ubisoft is kinda in the same boat.
