I'd Pay $1,000 For A PS4 With MGS5, GT6, And Uncharted 4
The cost of a new piece of hardware is critical. The $600 PlayStation 3 was a mistake according to many.
So a friend and I were talking today, and we were wondering what the PS4 might debut at; will we be looking at $500? And how much will the games be? Then came the question- "What would make you pay $1,000 on launch day?" Well, I decided that although it might be a stretch, I might fork over that amount for Sony's new console and a ridiculous Godly launch lineup of epic proportions that consisted of Metal Gear Solid 5, Gran Turismo 6, and Uncharted 4.
It's just a fun conversation; I'm not even sure I'd pay a grand for that, but I would definitely consider it. Right now, the interesting part about the PS4 isn't so much the machine, but the potential software that might arrive with it. The timing seems about right to see some amazing new franchise entries, like the ones mentioned above along with Killzone 4, LittleBigPlanet 3, and...uh...Final Fantasy XV. Okay, the latter wouldn't be exclusive to the PS4 and I've been at odds with Square Enix this entire generation, but the name "Final Fantasy" still has this sick hold on me.
So what would you pay $1,000 for when the PS4 arrives? What would have to come with it? Oh, that reminds me- They'd have to throw in an extra controller and an HDMI cable. The fact that the latter doesn't come with the PS3 is completely absurd.

Hopefully they can make the right decisions this time for the right price point, including what should have been included in the first place...

UC4 is the best bet. They can work circles around the Japanese and make games in a timely manner.

Pardon me good sir, but don't you think you are being just a few notches too touchy here now? Calling you out because of "good luck with that"? And you think that justifies repeatedly calling him words you even have to censor yourself?
Come on. This is so unnecessary. Just... Why.

Issue is you need to depend on the initial sales of the hardware to shift the game units. The way things are changing across the industry is it a given that the PS4 will simply sell like hot cakes on its first day of release? I would say yes if the hardware is good... and of course you do have a few decent games at launch... but, as a software company, it still means you are taking quite a risk by depending on the initial sales of the hardware...

With the PS4 it depends on the machine ,I can already play HD movies, store music, play online. It will depend on the launch lineup much more than the PS3.

4GB Ram
SATAII 250GB SSD (OCZ is selling one for $274 on NE. I would replace this with a larger size once prices go down. However I would love SATA III!!)
Radeon HD 7870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCIE 3.0 x16
Uncharted 4
Killzone 4
MGS5
I know, I am dreaming. You can remove MGS5 and I will pick it up a month later. But I would love all 3 games!

PS4 would have to be an order of magnitude faster and power powerful than PS3.
It would have to come with the appropriate video cables, headset, and controller.
It would have to be PS3 backwards compatible, I mean seriously, if you want $1000 for a console that console will have to be capable of playing every PlayStation title yet written.
If you include titles like Metal Gear Solid 5, Gran Turismo 6, and Uncharted 4, that'd help too.

I also didn't bother stating the obvious that it needs to be developer friendly and be truely next gen in all respects, because I thought maybe people would already expect that.

Some has mentioned backward compatibility. If a deluxe version were released with BC, that alone would take me a very good step towards the 1k.
A good, digital TV tuner feature with recording options (PVR) would be genius and make one less box in the livingroom setup (wonder if this will happen? Most components needed would already be there!).
But if I *had* to pick games to justify the price and they *had* to be exclusives it would have to be new IPs for me, unless they dramatically changed their existing ones. Well, a new Infamous would be neat I guess, but hardly a system seller by itself.
Nah, it's all about the hardware.

Hardware components, on the other hand, could make the system worth $1000. The PS4 would really have to replace everything in my home theater set-up, especially my PS2 and PS3, so complete, flawless BC for every PlayStation system (console and handheld) would be a requirement.
A tuner/PVR would be nice, but it likely wouldn't work with my cable company and local over-the-air HDTV isn't currently sufficient, so I don't know how much value it would add.
I'd need to be able to re-download all my PSN games to it.
It would have to have a 1 TB HDD, minimum, so I wouldn't need to upgrade too quickly.
And a browser that actually works. That'd be a deal-breaker.

Like more ram. I'd much rather have a meaningless 40gb drive if that means a good chunk of more ram instead.

Beyond that maybe a MGS5 (It all depends, having a game set after MGS4 seems wrong to me..) and maybe a new Quantic Dream title or something from Level-5.

Like digital distribution, this "service" model won't go away and the developers will try, in an ever increasing way, to get you purchase an on going contractual service... rather than a one-off product!

IF they were able to release a console that puts a gaming PC to shame, and has full BC with ps1,ps2,ps3 and psp games and upscales them to HD for you, and came with all peripherals like a charging dock for the controllers, 2 controllers, a 3D capable 3M HDMI cable, wireless headset, playstation eye and 2 move controllers.
than maybe id be worth 1000 bucks!
obviously it has to have a kick a$$ launch line up, but there is no point having said games if their just slight improvements of todays versions.
which im not so sure they will be.
i hope the ps4 is just as much a leap forward as the ps3 was, if not more!
but i seriously doubt it, allot has changed since the ps3 released, $ony went from kicking a$$ becoming the best selling console with the ps2, to massive epic fail and stone cold dead last with the ps3!
not to mention all the staff they have lost.
i honestly cant see $ony again putting themselves so far behind financially especially when their in the financial turmoil already!
ps4 will be allot better than the ps3, but i doubt it will be the leap forward people are expecting.

I dunno what it would have to be, but I'd want to know at least a realistic release date for the first Quantic Dream and Team ICO games for the system and at least a couple of other such artsy, esoteric games. A new, exclusive Valkyria Chronicles would have me lining up. PS3 B/C would be a must and maybe a second controller and longer USB cable to recharge. The evolution of the Move would be a nice inclusion too. Oh, and the knowledge that it is a vastly more powerful machine than its opposition proved unequivocally from day 1.
Even so, I don't think I'd splurge that much unless I had cash to burn, which doesn't seem likely for the foreseeable future.

Konami will not make the same mistake again and bring their best game out for a small market console and NOT at least have it in their contract to be able to move it to another console to make money, that is unless Sony pays them for it.
1000 dollars for a console? You must not have any children to raise or bills to pay. Maybe you are filthy rich and 1000 bucks is nothing to you. But it is to the 99 percent of us that does.
I will not pay over 400 dollars for a new console. I did that with the Sony ps3 and got stuck with a pretty system that had very little of anything, except a few good games.
Fool me once on you, fool me twice ....

That is saying a lot considering all the other games I like that in reality you can't get a sequel to. For example: vanquish and amalur.
Even popular franchises and cliche games I'm into wouldn't budge me (god of war, way of the samurai).

Don't get me wrong, I love me about half of the PS exclusives, but for that price I'd more likely be asking for a small 3-d tv. That would be a good bundle.
But as far as sequels I still want;
Another Legacy of Kain, and Medievil 3!
PS if GT6 was going to be a launch title, the PS4 wouldn't be out til about 2025.
