Naughty Dog Explains Why Uncharted 4 Is Drake's Final Run
Naughty Dog has already confirmed that Nathan Drake's next adventure will be his last.
Lead game designer Robert Cogburn tried to explain the reasons behind the team's decision, and why the hotly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be the end for Drake.
As he told Kotaku, the games are "hard to make" and as they always wanted to keep Drake grounded, "it's a challenge to consider how much more we can expand the universe while adhering to those sorts of rules." But beyond that, there are gameplay considerations:
"This is gonna be the fourth time we start answering stuff like, 'How do we make hand-grabs visible? What do we do to scale the combat experience? What are the interesting puzzles we can be introducing in the moment-to-moment as the player's experiencing this narrative?' That's not to say the questions will be the same in games we make going forward, but as a studio we grow tired of answering those same types of questions in the same fiction. It's gonna be fun for us to really embark on new ideas and start fleshing those out [in a new series]."
Cogburn added that The Last Of Us, which boasted very different gameplay mechanics, proved to Naughty Dog that could indeed expand to different systems. Well, we haven't seen anything less than brilliance from this developer for some time, so we believe they can succeed at just about any project they decide to tackle.
By the way, did you try out the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 4? The final game launches on March 18, 2016 exclusively for PS4, if you've forgotten.
