Fallout Fans Seeking New Entry Will Have To Wait A While

You really want a new Fallout, don't you? Well, you had best settle in for a long wait.

During a recent Polygon interview with Bethesda marketing vice president Pete Hines, we learn that it'd be "unrealistic" to expect news of a fresh Fallout installment any time soon. Too bad.

It's obviously a ways off, but Hines says Bethesda refuses to apply the popular "annualization" philosophy to any of their franchises, which we appreciate. But at the same time, the fans shouldn't have to wait too long:

"We are not into annual franchises--just trying to spin out a version of our game year, after year, after year--like, we have never done that, I don't see that it is something that we are doing anytime soon. But that doesn't mean that we are going to take our time and wait six or seven years in between a game that a studio puts out. But these are big games that take a long time and folks need to understand that we have a very certain way of going about things."

The Fallout games are pretty massive, as are The Elder Scrolls titles. It takes some time to put one together, you know? There had been recent rumors about Fallout 4 being set in a post-apocalyptic Boston but for now, they will have to remain rumors.

I understand that, and I don't want them to be annualized but New Vegas was fairly small and a bit of a dud. I wouldn't even mind another spin-off if it was engrossing. But it's their game so they can release when they want.

That said, it has been many years since Fallout 3 and I'm kind of dying. I hope the PC architecture makes it easier to get out to us asap. I love Skyrim but it's a lot more tiresome than Fallout, but if Fallout 4 is the size and scope of Skyrim I'll be happy.

You can probably bet that Fallout 4 will be bigger than Skyrim, and then Elder Scrolls 6 will be bigger than that.

*sigh*

Why do Bethesda have to keep making games that suck my life away. Damn you and your awesome games Bethesda.

I am with World on this as I don't want Fallout to be some type of annual release, but I sure would like some info on the series now.

It's been a few years Bethesda, surely you must know that.

I'm with World and the rest, I'm kind of dying too.

Believe it or not, but as of now this game here is my most anticipated game for this entire generation. Yup. Even higher than the start of the next Mass Effect saga.

I think Fallout 3 was my favorite of the current gen, that's a hard accolade to decide on but overall that was the experience that sticks with me the most. It was utterly unique as my first time in a persistent world and the setting was like it was tailor made for my interests. I get giddy just imagining what could be done next time.

a franchise does'nt need a new entry every year, just look at GTA.

imo, its sounds to me like they're just not interested in doing anothe Fallout.

Though I would really like a new Fallout game, I appreciate that they want to give us top quality games. They don't believe in annualization, so that means that the games would be of better quality. They think of us gamers, so I give them my respect. I can wait.

I don't understand.

The last fallout game was 3 years ago. The last big Bethesda game was nearly 2 years ago. The last internal fallout game was 4 years ago.

What is becoming annualized?

gotta love it how companies manage to flap their gums without actually managing to say anything.
people were asking when the next fallout will be coming, this did not really answer that question.
its like $onys response today to the ps4 release date leak.
saying a rumor is speculation, is beyond redundant.
maybe its not that far off after all, still too late in the year but better than the november 21st date i was pegging.
still like them to release as close to the start of november as possible.
especially considering ghosts is releasing within the first week, and no one is going to withhold buying the biggest game of the year for a few weeks!
