Insomniac Boss Ted Price Shares His Top 5 Games Of 2015

It's always interesting to hear what the industry's best think of the latest and greatest games.

Famitsu gave us a peek at the top 5 2015 titles from 37 game designers and now, another industry icon has shared his favorite games of the year.

It's Insomniac boss Ted Price and his top 5 picks come courtesy of Game Informer. If you didn't already know, Insomniac is one of the finest development studios on the planet; they've given us the likes of Ratchet & Clank and Resistance; we can't wait for that awesome Ratchet & Clank remake! And Price, president and CEO, has one heckuva list:

5. Rocket League

"I picked this as #5 because I’m a sucker for simple co-op or competitive games I can play with my kids. I use “simple” as a compliment because making a game simple but fun and addictive is brutally hard. It’s one of those games that’s easy to pick up and hard to master. Yet even if I never will be able to compete at a high level, every time I jump into an arena, it’s sheer fun. That keeps me coming back again and again."

4. Undertale

"This one really caught me by surprise. I loved the fact that it dared to turn old school conventions upside down. I had read plenty of critique on both sides before playing and was prepared to be disappointed. However I was caught up by the game’s quirky charm and its willingness to change the rules."

3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

"I will admit I’ve never finished a previous MGS. Yes, blasphemy. Something has always thrown me off a few hours in. MGSV is the first MGS that has grabbed me and hasn’t let go. To me, everything about it is unexpected. It’s as if Hideo Kojima is using a play book that no one else has seen (okay, so maybe that’s not entirely true when it comes to combat.) But I found myself thinking again and again 'wait, I can’t believe they did that!' I reveled in the depth, the scope, the weird story and the fact that you can sprint forever."

2. Ori and the Blind Forest

"When it comes to Metroidvania games, Ori set a new bar. Its visuals are extraordinary. It also tells an impactful story with few words but with great depth. (Two of my kids were moved to tears by its first scene). And its gameplay, while occasionally maddening, was a masterclass in how to take relatively few building blocks and create seemingly unending variety. In fact, when I think back I can’t remember any two setups that were alike. That’s an amazing accomplishment for any game."

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

"I’ve never played an open world game with such a consistently well executed story for both the main quests and side quests. I was continually surprised by the twists and turns that the narrative took. I was also surprised by some of the risks the story took in broaching mature, borderline uncomfortable topics. This made the game come alive for me. As a result, I’ve spent more time in the Witcher’s world than any other game I played this year."

You forgot to mention all of Witcher's breasts and sex, Ted. This game has the average middle aged male wrapped around its finger.

Glad I didn't get that game. Western developers are pretty terrible at modeling digital females. Would hate to see what they look like nude. Haha

Haha well don't let that stop you Jawknee.
The obstacle for me with this one is the dark and seedy feeling fantasy world. The detailed Storylines can be sick, gross and unsettling. I can only do it in small doses. Though I'd say it's probably the best RPG of the year.

Nah, there are other reasons for me to avoid this. I'm not into the lord of the ringsish fantasy stuff. Always been a fan of fantasy worlds created in Japanese culture vs Europe.

While I've never watched Game of Thrones I've read the Witcher feels most like the "Westeros" brand of fantasy over the Tolkein style.

EDIT: garb and decor design wise the Witcher appears to draw heavily from European midevil & Renaissance times.

Jawks, actually Witcher 3 portray females very well in all aspects.

A great game that only sin it's having one of the worst combat systems of all time, that said I read from some old Witcher fans (I only started with 3) that you don't play Witcher for the combat and that the old games were even worst in that aspect lol.

You guys owe it yourself to play Witcher 3. Great content and mature story telling. The combat is forgettable, but the story and vibe are not throwaway. Amazing game overall. If the nude models are a problem then my response is WTF lol Everything is done tasteful. As far as the dark story....not sure what to say about that after you spend all games killing people, but Aye

The Witcher's female breasts were all kind of flat. Which ticks me off. One would think with all the magic in the world one would could have had some huge fake ones to admire. WTF MAN!!

I have to say- those are also my top 3 for this year! I really need to check out Undertale, been getting a ton of praise.

Rise of the Tomb Raider would round out my top 5.

He's right about Ori. Probably the best console exclusive XB1 has. Thankfully I am part of the glorious PC gaming master race and get to play it on Steam.
